Pre-eclampsia worry

Angeliki159 · 13/07/2018 20:01

Hi I'm new to mumsnet but I don't know who else to turn to....

My last mw appt said there was small amount of protein in my urine.
She said if I have headache or blurred vision to call triage.
I have a headache and my vision is somewhat wobbly. Not exactly blurred (bit like when you just wake up and your eyes havnt quite adjusted yet) and the headache isn't severe - still watching tv and ok with lights on etc.
However, I have not been drinking enough and have been hardly sleeping so I'm thinking it's a lot to do with that.

So far I have had 1.5litres of drink today and had painkillers an hour ago.
Still got the headache.

Would you call triage now or would you wait and see how you feel later on?

I feel a bit sick (not severe sickness or anything just a bit bleugh) and got bad acid reflux and heartburn.

Tried looking on Google but ended up making myself feel worse.

FTM 38 weeks
Scared

I go by the rule...that if ever you question if you should call or not....that means you should. They are always so happy to help and it's far better to get their advice and get checked out if they advise that. Call them x

WelshMammy123 · 13/07/2018 20:16

Hi,

Try not to worry but do give triage a call and see what they say. Was your blood pressure raised at your last check? Any swelling at all?

I developed borderline preeclampsia in my last pregnancy and you really can't be too careful.

Better to be safe than sorry. Be prepared for the fact that they might induce given your 38 weeks now. Hope all's ok x

Waitingonasmiley42 · 13/07/2018 20:18

Call them and they’ll most likely get you in and check you over. I had pre e and the headache was annoying but not agony!

Good luck

hendricksy · 13/07/2018 20:20

Do you have odema? I've had Pe in both pregnancies . How many weeks are you ? Are you overweight ? Is your blood pressure normally on the high side ?

Iwantaunicorn · 13/07/2018 20:23

I’d call triage immediately. I didn’t have any of the symptoms (was 36 weeks), but I swelled up like a water balloon, called them up for advice, got called in, and came out with my babies 5 days later!

Angeliki159 · 13/07/2018 20:24

My hands were quite swollen last night. Not had swollen hands before. My ring got stuck.
Don't think my blood pressure was overly raised. She did take it manually aswell just to check but she didnt seem concerned or anything.
Had the headache and wobbly eyes since Monday evening.
I usually have quite low bp anyway.
Can't even ask mw as she doesn't work past 5pm on Friday.
Don't really want to go to triage if it's nothing. Feel bad wasting people's time

Are you swollen now ? It's serious , call out if hours doctors .

hendricksy · 13/07/2018 20:29

I don't want to scare you wouldn't forgive myself if anything happened . I was very very unwell the second time . Please st least get advice .

Mummyme87 · 13/07/2018 20:31

Just go in to be assessed. It’s important

Bowlofbabelfish · 13/07/2018 20:31

I’d call triage. They will likely want to have a look at you and they’d much, much rather check out a hundred women with ‘maybe ‘ symptoms and send them home healthy than miss one genuine emergency. You absolutely are not wasting anyone’s time.

AreWeDoingThisNow · 13/07/2018 20:32

Call triage.

I don't want to scare you or be overly harsh but you were told to call if you got these symptoms and you've had them 4 days now.

Please don't ignore any longer.

Hopefully it's nothing but please ask a professional.

RibenaColada · 13/07/2018 20:33

I had PE. It’s totally shit. Please get checked, you’re not wasting their time. I didn’t even have any symptoms I could apart from feeling a bit shit (was 40+2) until my BP and a urine sample were taken.

Annab1983 · 13/07/2018 20:34

You’re not wasting anyone’s time OP please go and get seen. I had PE both times and births at just over 38 weeks due to it.. all I had was swollen fingers and a feeling all wasn’t quite right the first time.. saw stars a lot the second time.. if it’s nothing then you can relax but please get seen.. PE is not something to mess with.. as a Pp said bring your hospital bag just in case I was caught short the first time! Best of luck!

RibenaColada · 13/07/2018 20:34

^I could identify, that should say

Iwantaunicorn · 13/07/2018 21:01

It’s not wasting their time, they’d rather be safe than sorry. Defo second the bring your hospital bag advice from PP, I didn’t and also got caught short!

hendricksy · 13/07/2018 21:09

Yes .. I had a scan at 28 weeks and they sent me straight to hospital . I was there a month 🙈🙈.. take your stuff!

ActualMermaid · 13/07/2018 21:13

Hello! Please please call, you're not wasting anyone's time! I'm currently writing this from the hospital bed, I feel physically fine but my blood pressure has been high the last few appointments and in the last couple of days I have been really swollen with protein in my urine. They don't take it lightly and now I'm in all weekend for monitoring! Its not worth the worry sitting at home, when it could just be a quick visit to reassure you. Smile

Hope everything is okay!

cornishmumtobe · 13/07/2018 21:15

OH MY DAYS CALL TRIAGE

Qcumber · 13/07/2018 21:28

Call triage and go in. I had pre eclampsia that was missed. Same as you tony bit of protein in urine but nothing else was said. I went for another appointment at 37 weeks and was told they needed to deliver the baby immediately. I had an emergency c section. Please please go in and get checked.

PivotPivotPIVOTTT · 13/07/2018 23:11

Call and go in. I had no symptoms except from protein in my urine, my blood pressure was fine and I felt absolutely fine so the hospital were really shocked when my bloods came back that I had PE. Midwives were convinced that I wouldn't have it due to normal blood pressure. I was took straight down to the labour ward. In the 5 minutes between diagnosis and reaching the labour ward my blood pressure rocketed and my full body swelled up (they think the stress and panic brought my symptoms on quickly). I ended up developing HELLP, me and my baby are both very luck to be alive. Sorry for the dramatic post I'm not trying to scare you but it worries me seeing posts like this after what happened to me.

Angeliki159 · 14/07/2018 00:24

I just realised, I have not worn my glasses for 2 weeks since being on maternity leave. That is likely to be the reason I have wobbly vision, headaches and feeling sick!
I'm going to wear them tomorrow, drink lots and if I have headache or weird vision at any point I will call triage straight away.

OP posts:
Fatted · 14/07/2018 00:33

Please, please, please just go into the day ward/triage unit for where you're having baby and get yourself checked out.

I had pre-eclampsia with both pregnancies. DS2 pretty much had constant borderline high blood pressure from 28 weeks. I went in a couple of times due to bad headaches. Usually, they just popped me on the blood pressure machine and the heart rate monitor for baby for a while. But always happy to see me and never made to feel like I was wasting their time.

At 37 I was actually admitted to the hospital with my blood pressure and bells palsy. I had the blurred vision, it's more like little spots or flashes, like what you get when someone shines a really bright light into your eyes and you can still see it afterwards (sorry for crap explanation!).

BlueBug45 · 14/07/2018 01:26

The advice I was given was if I had any symptoms like yours was to call triage and get myself checked immediately regardless of whether I thought it was something else. (And yes I wear glasses.)

PLEASE DO SO NOW. DON'T LEAVE IT.

GuntyMcGee · 14/07/2018 01:39

Why won't you call triage?

Triage staff are PAID to see you, it's their job, it's not a waste of their time and it's never a waste of yours if it gives you reassurance.

You're worried enough to have posted here, you really should phone triage and get checked. Otherwise why would your
midwife have mentioned keeping an eye on symptoms?

Ok, it could well be not wearing your glasses, but it could be pre eclampsia, which is serious stuff and you have already had protein in your urine. Stop arsing a round with yours and baby's wellbeing and get checked out. Please.

Qcumber · 14/07/2018 07:50

OP please just call. They can check you over and hopefully it's nothing and you can go home. If you leave it and you have pre eclampsia you and your baby could die. It's very serious and you need to take it seriously.
