As the title says really? Also had you eaten before you went in? What happened? Did you go straight down to theatre or wait around a bit? Due a planned c section next week and worried she comes early.

Me, 5 weeks ago. It was the night before my elective so hadn't eaten much anyway. Got to hospital at 3 am, hadn't eaten since 3 pm the previous day so was fine on that front but they didn't seem too worried about that. They put me on a monitor to confirm I was in labour/see how happy baby was and then asked what I wanted. Given the reasons for my elective (first baby born by emcs after getting well and truly stuck at full dilation) I said I wanted the section and having first explained that if any emergencies occurred, I'd have to wait, they set that in motion.

It took 3 hours before we could go to theatre, I was 6 cm dilated by that point and getting slightly stressed but the team were lovely (all female and took on board how stressed and anxious I was especially given what had happened with my son's) and I got to see her being born, got skin to skin within minutes etc.

Plus it turns out my ever so slightly terrifying consultant was planning on delivering her had I made my elective date/time so for me it turned out perfectly.

I did, sort of! My waters broke at 4am 3 days before my elective date. Went on monitor at hospital to check baby and all was fine, wasn't in proper labour as was only experiencing mild tightenings and cramping - not enough to show on monitor. They said they would be aiming to get in me into theatre at 10am, partly to allow for staff change over to happen first, and again unless there was any emergency's, and they kept to their word. Was kinda surreal to have known the date for ages and thought I had everything planned, but I guess in a way it also meant I didn't have time to get nervous! Eating wasn't an issue as I'd gone in at night, but also I think an empty stomach is just an ideal - they don't exactly check if it's an emergency section, and can always give you laxative if there's time. Good luck!
