Where do you feel the kicks?

Hi ladies I’m 28+5 with my first baby and I’ve noticed in the last week that I’ve only ever felt kicks quite low in my bump - usually around the bottom and occasionally just below my bellybutton.

Does that sound like your experience too? I thought I’d feel them higher up by now.

Do you know where your placenta is? It should say in your notes. I have an anterior placenta and my movements are always low like yours, and occasionally to the sides. I only feel very large kicks higher up. It’s because the placenta is in the way at the top/front of my bump so I don’t feel the smaller ones.

Cheery145 · 12/07/2018 22:53

Hi yorkshirebee thanks for responding. I have a posterior placenta so that’s not the same but thanks for trying to help!

I'm 31w and mines always kicked in the lower part of my belly. I have a posterior low placenta but baby is breech and as far as I know always has been (scan at 28w) so I assume in my case it's because the legs are down the bottom

Megglou · 12/07/2018 22:56

I felt my kicks really high, I was constantly booted in the ribs by my little one. But towards the end of my pregnancy when the little one was making his way down to the exit I only ever felt them low down, this was from around 36 weeks. I think it depends on babies position and like the previous person said placenta also makes a difference!

Thanks OliveOrTwist and Megglou, I really appreciate you sharing your experiences! I’m going for a private scan this weekend so will try to enquire as to whether baby is breech. Would presumably explain a lot!

My kicks were low down, her head was in my ribs, about 30 weeks she went head down and then all her kicks were high and in the ribs :)

frasier · 12/07/2018 23:31

Mostly in the ribs, sometimes in my sides. I’d see s little foot sticking out occasionally!

BlueBug45 · 12/07/2018 23:53

I'm 31 weeks and my baby is mostly transverse so I feel them on the left and right sides just above belly button height. Every now and then baby changes position so I feel kicks everywhere. When baby sticks out it feels like a knee or elbow sticking out rather than a foot.

I was told at my 28w growth scan that baby would probably turn after 30w. After my 30w appointment I was told not to worry until after 34w. No doubt at 34w I will be told to wait until I'm scanned again.

I’m 29+6 and in the anterior placenta club too. I used to feel kicks mostly at the top, and my MW felt baby a couple of weeks ago, and said he was head-down (kinda in a C shape) and he mostly hangs out on my right-hand side. But since then, I’ve been feeling kicks/movements in all parts of my belly, so who knows what he’s doing now!! Can’t distinguish b/ween arms/legs/elbows yet: combination of AP and my tummy pudding perhaps?! So I think bub can do all sorts - hope that helps OP!

Thanks so much everyone I really appreciate it and feel much reassured that there doesn’t seem to be a particular pattern I’m missing at this stage!

I have an anterior placenta too, i get booted everywhere, there is no pattern to my movements yet (22+3) sometimes it's over my belly button, other times low down and other times on my sides so i really think it depends on how much baby is practising his/her gymnastics lol x

SaffronSands · 13/07/2018 14:28

I'm 23+4 and feel kicks everywhere. Low down, high up, on my bladder (eugh), in the middle by my belly button. I also have an anterior placenta but regardless, I can feel and see kicks everywhere. Everyone is different. My friend just had her first and didn't really feel kicks. I find that hard to imagine but it does happen.

Mousefunky · 13/07/2018 15:52

Posterior placenta here and I’m 23+5. Most of the kicks are low down around my bladder, he occasionally will kick towards my belly button as you mentioned.

OliveOrTwist · 14/07/2018 19:09

@Cheery145 How did your scan go?

NelleB · 14/07/2018 20:22

I have a high placenta, also on the front. Movements are mostly to the left hand side of my stomach, sometimes it feels like I’m being kicked in the bottom from the inside out. Very strange but all movements are welcomed!

Merename · 14/07/2018 22:20

The majority of my movements are around the middle of my belly, above belly button, also with some low and some high. I have no idea what this means but it's different to my last pregnancy. 31wk now and looking forward to a growth scan at 33 wks to see what's going on in there!

Cheery145 · 15/07/2018 19:01

Thanks ladies. @OliveOrTwist the scan was today and went fine thanks. All the vitals are looking good like blood flow, placenta, sizes, etc. 3D photos were rubbish though, but sonographer said you only get really clear ones if you have excess fluid (?). She said he was head down and pretty much in all views he had his feet by his head (same as previous scans!) so she reckons he’s kicking me around his head - in my lower bump! V amusing. Have you seen yours with feet near head? Or do you still think breech?

Merename · 15/07/2018 19:52

That's so interesting Cheery! Hard to imagine that is comfy but I'm sure he'd tuck his legs up if not! Glad all is well and that you've got a clear explanation for your query about the kick pattern.

Cheery145 · 15/07/2018 22:12

Thanks @Merename - strange eh?! I am getting the occasional kick above my belly button now and they are strong, so he doesn’t seem to be permanently bent in half! Smile

32 weeks with anterior placenta. I've been feeling loads of kicks on my right hand side, about level with belly button, and smaller movements very low down in my groin.

At an appointment last week the midwife had a feel and said his head was well down in my pelvis, his bum was under my left-hand ribs and his feet were just where all the kicking was happening. It's quite cool to work out where he's sat, and to think he's experiencing the world upside down!
