Inducing labour MYTHS!

I feel so demoralised. 40+3 weeks, I've tried every trick recommended to me since I was 39 weeks. I've had sex or an orgasm nearly every day, stimulated my nipples, castor oil, long walks, bouncing on a ball, eating spicy food. When people tell you these difference things worked for them it gives you that sense of hope that it might work for you... wrong!

I had sex with my partner last night, woke up today with some very strong 'period pains' I thought great! We're getting somewhere, finally! Kept up with my day taking my DD to school and getting a bit of shopping just in case, the aches were still there, but once again, turns out to be strong braxton Hicks...

I know I haven't got long left, but when you have that due date in your head you expect to be sat with your bundle of joy that day. And whatever little niggle you have brings your hopes up and turns out to be wind or false labour pains, oh it's so gutting!
I say Bravo, to anybody who has bought labour on themselves, but for me, I have a very stubborn little girl!

My ds was 40+10 and the labour was spontaneous so don't give up! I tried everything too. The midwife tried and failed to do a sweep. When ds was born the midwife said there was no way he was 10 days overdue and the due date was wrong. At my first scan, they did bring my due date forward so perhaps they were a few days out.

I assume you've had a sweep?

SprogletsMum · 12/07/2018 19:13

Ankle hopper.
Like a complete bell end I spent the day in the park with the dc playing with the ankle hopper at 38+6. Waters went that night baby born in the morning.
I'd had no signs of labour and I'm guessing it's really not safe but it definitely started me off.

I was 40+13 and did everything - walking, shagging, spicey food, bouncing on the birthing ball. Not even the threat of induction worked as hospital was full and got told to call the next morning for a time to go in.

He eventually made his appearance later that night (and before the attempted induction) after I’d relaxed on the sofa, settled down to watch a film and eaten a lovely tea.

I was a week overdue with 2 of my babies and i can safely say that none of the old wives tales - sex, spicy food etc work. I even had 2 sweeps and they didn't work :(

I know its not what you want to hear but the baby will come when its good and ready and not before.

I feel your pain. It was the longest week of my life (both times). Praying im not overdue again this time. Try and keep positive. Just think it will all be definitely over in less than 2 weeks as your hospital won't let you go more than 2 weeks over.

MommaBee97 · 12/07/2018 19:29

I had a sweep with my DD1, I was a week overdue and she was with me the same day! I've been booked in for a sweep when I'm 41 weeks as my midwife won't give me one until then... it's true, they won't come until they are ready!

We tried everything. Absolutely everything. It's all bull. Babies come when they are good and ready.

Went into labour naturally at 40+17

0310Star · 13/07/2018 08:53

Currently trying everything too, been having contractions for 9 days now, 1cm dilated and had 2 sweeps and STILL she doesn't want to budge 🤦‍♀️

DoubleHelix79 · 13/07/2018 11:22

The only method that has some evidence behind it is nipple stimulation. A quick tweak won't do it though, you'd need to have several 10 minute sessions a day to increase the chances of labor starting.

I'm a bit of a geek and looked into some of the science behind the usual old wives tales while pregnant.

It’s all fiction. That baby will come when it’s ready, or medicine will bring it out.
Dont put yourself through it all.

MagicFajita · 13/07/2018 11:30

Sorry op , I've been where you are 3 times (two born +13 and one +10) and it's the most frustrated I've ever been.

Unfortunately I agree that nothing works.

Just try to remember that in a maximum of 12 days you will be cradling your baby.

Mousefunky · 13/07/2018 11:42

I tried everything to get DC2 out including eating a whole pineapple which just made my tongue raw. Nothing except a sweep worked for me. I had all three of mine at 40+3 and it only started after a sweep.

I completely understand how frustrating it is being overdue but just remember, there’s really not long to go at all until you hold your baby Flowers.

Lymphy · 13/07/2018 12:16

If it makes you feel any better (it won't) I'm 40+2 and exactly the same not a sniff of anything anytime soon! I was induced with first 15 days over and really want to go onto labour myself this time I don't think it'll happen though xx

househunthappening · 13/07/2018 12:28

Nothing to suggest but just lots of Thanks and Cake for you OP, I was overdue this time last year and I absolutely hated it. Fingers crossed something happens for you soon!

JustVent · 13/07/2018 12:35

I’ve been there!!
First was 2 weeks late, second was 10 days late.

I tried all the above and more (Clary sage on the big toe anyone?!) and nothing got them going.

I do however swear by raspberry leaf tea. It doesn’t trigger labour but both my boys were out in minutes when it came to pushing.
