Shirley
Pam
Roy
and Gary

all due for a comeback
beat the rush
be en Vogue

CristinaTheAstonishing · 30/05/2007 16:16

"be en Vogue" How about Cosmo[politan]? I think I've seen Cosmo as a boy's name mentioned somewhere.

suzywong · 30/05/2007 16:17

no no far too hackneyed

you need to look at the naems of your parent's best friends, especially the "Uncle XXXX" who always wears a pringle jumper and grey slip ons

Bouquetsofdynomite · 30/05/2007 16:19

Pennypops, I do believe the original Mr Darcy's christian name was Fitzwilliam, in Pride & Prejudice. I think it's pretty cool, he could always call himself Will if he wanted to be more anonymous.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 30/05/2007 16:21

Uncles? Mine have great names: Emilian (Milu), Liviu (Lulu), Florin, Dan, Leo, Petre. None wear Pringle, training bottoms and flimsy jackets are more their style.

bilblio · 30/05/2007 16:24

7.5 months down the line and I'm possibly getting closer to convincing DP that Seth is a good name. He still hates it, but I think he's becoming more resigned to it as everyone else has come round to it, and I've got it firmly stuck in my head. At least I'm looking for other other names, unlike him.

Girls names we're totally stuck on. I was thinking of Matilda (which is a family name), Scarlet or Poppy. But they're all really popular now, and DP hates them all.

I like Lyra, and when I mentioned it he didn't dismiss it totally.

My favourite name for a girl is Celeste, but I'm biased and it would be far too confusing.

Anna8888 · 30/05/2007 16:25

bilblio - is Celeste because of Babar? We had a bit of Babar thing going when choosing names...

Myfairone · 30/05/2007 16:38

Is anyone else sick of people's comments when you discuss names? They ask you what names you like and then proceed to ruin every single one for you!!!!!!

I have decided that the next person who asks me is going to get the standard line of 'we haven't thought of any yet'!

I liked Logan but then someone told me its the name of the airport in Boston USA and then they all had a laugh toying with calling a baby Heathrow, Gatwick or Stanstead!!!!!!!!

It is fun though isnt it!

Diplidophus · 30/05/2007 16:50

My fairone...

I refuse to discuss names with anyone for exactly that reason. The only place a look for opinions is MN!

DS1 is Felix - my Mum hated it at first. We love it but I know she would have persuaded me out of it.

bilblio · 30/05/2007 16:52

Anna8888 - No Celeste is definitely not because of Babar. I'd never heard of Babar until I was about 7 and an obnoxious librarian told me I shouldn't be reading Enid Blyton books as they were were far too advanced for my age, but instead should be reading the Babar books.

I tracked some down and was doubly insulted. Not only were they very simple to read, but Princess Celeste was an elephant (I wasn't the thinnest of children.)

Anna8888 · 30/05/2007 16:56

bilblio - I can see that you might have been insulted, my daughter is 2.6 and she adores Babar...

seamonster · 30/05/2007 17:12

Ds1 was always Conor (from the + test), ds2 was Nathan when he was about a week old. Dd is Nellie. Don't make the mistake of telling RL friends or family your choices until dc is born. The in-laws hate Nellie and even now refuse to call her it.

MrsJetson · 30/05/2007 17:16

When I had DS1 there was a whisper going around the MW's about a darling little baby girl who had just been given the name CHANEL-DIOR! Oh dear........

Hopeitwontbebig · 30/05/2007 17:19

loler (big babies chat)

I'm booked in for a sizing scan at 32 weeks, and a GTT at 28 weeks. Will have to wait and see , it's a girl this time so I'm holding out for a smaller one??????

How are you?

Gatecrash over!!

Still liking Lyra!!!!!!

Anna8888, my husband vetoed Flora just because he hates any unusual name! He is actually coming round to it a bit more now but we still prefer Freya (still not sure how I got him to agree to that as it is still not run of the mill).

PetronellaPinkPants · 30/05/2007 17:23

Oh I love Flora but my DH will not hear of it - he just thinks of tubs of margarine

So our shortlist for our Dec baby no 2 is:

Freya
Daisy
Elizabeth
Amelia
Claudia
Emily

Or for a boy:

Ben
Oliver
Max
James

JolieGirl · 30/05/2007 17:33

Just realised I poss cannot have Daisy as we already have DS Tom - there is a children's shop called Daisy & Tom isn't there...?!!! But I think their main store at Bluewater closed down which may mean they went bust. Anyone know?!
