Calzone not really ..even having a simple name does not guarantee it will be spelt correctly...i have a very normal run of the mill name and it is never spelt correctly...to be honest i dont pick a name for the spelling or to be different its what sounds and feels right when i say it and what goes right with our surname... i particularly like gaelic names as they run in my family and my kids go to gaelic school so i wont really have much of a spelling problem. i think its nice to bring some heritage into a family and mine just happens to have unusual spellings... i actually wish i had called my other lo gaelic names but my dd1 name came from the fact she was born after a horrendous ferry crossing and her name means sea born..and dd2 dp wanted to name her hollie as he just loves the name and it perfectly suits her!

They are not for everyone but thats ok .

nappyaddict · 07/01/2008 22:56

goodtogoss - you like your k's i love kyra and keisha.

hatrick - i love ezra

twinkie - liked posy after ballet shoes too!! it's a pet name for josephine apparently.

glastochick - i hadn't ever thought of ursula before, but i do quite like it.

calzone - my ds has a double barrelled name and he gets called both his first name, second name and his double baralled name. i know a katie-jane, sarah-jane, sarah-louise, lucy-anne, kirsty-jane, sarah-leigh, jamie-lee and all get called their full names. i also know 2 holly-anne's but both just get called holly. i have asked people with double barrel names and the people who just use their first name told me it was cos nobody really ever called them their full name - not even their own immediate family so it didn't feel like their name which is why i make sure i call ds both and everyone else does aswell.

nappyaddict · 07/01/2008 23:21

broodymum - i love gaelic names too. i have to spell out my name constantly and its a normal name. i get does it end in i, y or ie and then does it have an e on the end so normal names aren't easily spelled either.

love hallie but would use it as a pet name for harriet. is arwen pronounced are - win?

i like caelan and cailin which is similar to Cailean. cailean can be pronounced in the same way as either and also gilean and kilean.

i like dara for both and also DÁIRE for a boy which is pronounced like dora.

i prefer the spelling xander to zander.

niall is lovely and other gaelic names i like are derril, dorrin, carr, derrie, herbie and derbie for a boy and kari, kearie, kay, terrin, derrin, derron, darrel and kerrie for both.

nappyaddict · 07/01/2008 23:35

i also like cadi which i would have as a pet name for catrin. it's welsh and my family have a welsh background so it fits quite nicely. or there's CÁTIA which is a pet from to catarina.

disneystar · 08/01/2008 07:28

hi my children are called
hannah
zak
dean
charlie-ki
alan-jay
danny tyler
my new baby due july my thinking names at the moment are

tallulah
elijah

Broodymumof2 · 08/01/2008 22:41

Nappyaddict- I would say Are-win like you have...and i love cailean its one of my faves!!

Its a shame that there is people who think double barrelled names are given for social status...Excuse us who deviate from the "norm" and upset the stepford wifes who have the need to be the same as the other 20 or so clones so as not to be outdone! TUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Broodymumof2 · 08/01/2008 22:43

disneystar .....such beautiful names! loving Tallulah and Elijah for your new bundle x

3andnomore · 08/01/2008 22:55

I have a Sven, a Yannic and a Flynn.

I always loved the name Noah for a Boy but my dh hated it ...for Boys I also like Dominic, Shay/Shane, Logan and Mason.

For Girls we had:
ds1 would have been - Shana
ds2- would have been- Lina or Melina
ds3 would have been Anoushka or Tatyana

I also love the names Olivia, Esme and Orla

nappyaddict · 09/01/2008 19:42

is shana pronounced shar - na?

if so i love that and also anoushka.

have never though of sven or yannic .. not sure of yannic but definitely like sven.

clarahj · 09/01/2008 21:03

3andnomore - I love Yannic - it is lovely - what are its origins?
Disneystar - love Tallulah and ELijah too - I have an Elijah myself (ELI for short) and love the nn Lula for Tallulah.
hattrick - love your list - I have a ds called Amos and most of your other names have been on our list at some point - really love Silas[ a lot and Abel (neither of which we can use as both rhyme with a siblings name - boo!)

3andnomore · 12/01/2008 13:43

sorry, had connectionproblems these past few days, and wasn't able to get online at all

As for Shana, yes, we would have pronounced it Sharna...I think it could also be spelled Shanna...

Nappyaddict...oddly enough Sven is the name that,I regret giving the most....but I think it is because I will always begrudge my dh not giving into calling him Noah, and well, the whole football thing don't help...

Clara...Yannic is off french origin.

caitlinnjacksmummy · 15/01/2008 10:16

nappyaddict · 05/02/2008 14:20

sweetkitty · 05/02/2008 14:26

oh glad to see this thread up and running again DB3 due in July and we have NO IDEA on names.

I have 2 DDs already will be finding out the sex of this one so we can only argue about one set of names. There is nothing DP and I agree on, this is his suggestions so far:

Lucien (for a GIRL despite me telling him it's a boys name)
Frances
Samantha
Logan

Me:
Eilidh (but I think it's too close to DD1's name)
Elliot (my all time fav boys name but have I gone off it?)
Amelie (but again too close to DD1's name)
Eliana (probably shortened to Ellie but friends DD is Ellie)

Problem is our surname is only 4 letters so a short name doesn't sound right.
I went through all the registered names in Scotland in 2007 the other night and nothing jumped out at me.

I went through

nappyaddict · 05/02/2008 14:31

i love lucien for a boy and eliana for a girl. how is elidith pronounced again?

nappyaddict · 05/02/2008 14:31

elidh

nappyaddict · 05/02/2008 14:33

what about kitty?

sweetkitty · 05/02/2008 14:55

I believe it is A-ley but DD1 is Abbie.

I think Lucien is nice for a BOY but it doesn't have that wow factor for me, DD1's name was always my girls name and DD2's just jumped out at me and I love it.

PrePG · 05/02/2008 16:31

Ooooh, can I play, too, please?

We've been certain about a boys name forever - Tristan James.

Girls not so much, although the front runner is probably Francesca Catherine.

I also like Alexa and a bunch of others that sound horrid with our last name.

Other boys names that I love are Zachary, Noah and Jake

nappyaddict · 05/02/2008 16:35

yes i meant lucien for a boy.

ThePFJ · 05/02/2008 16:50

We have picked Jack Lewis for a boy or Elsa Mary for a girl. I know Jack is a bit popular at the moment, but I love it. ...
