Office job - struggling to sit down all day!

Hi!

Just wondered if anyone was in the same situation and had any advice? I'm currently 24+2 and this is my first pregnancy.
For about the past week by about 2-3pm onwards in the afternoon the middle of my rib cage is killing!
I'm struggling to stay sitting down as it's SO uncomfortable and achy! I've tried sitting on a pillow, sitting with it behind my back, adjusting my chair, I've even got the workshop to make me a footstool! All to no avail!
I don't know what else I can do or even what is causing the pain? I've googled it and think it might be the stretching going on inside.

TIA Smile

For me it was my bra and I found changing bras made a huge difference to sitting down!

Thanks @surreygirl1987 ! That did cross my mind. I've looked at those bandeau bras, is that what you changed to?

At 26 weeks I took my birthing ball into work and sat on that instead of my chair. It really made a difference. I also did laps of the building every hour, so I wasn't sitting for too long.

I have literally just sent my partner to get a ball this afternoon @PinstripeElephant so I can try it at home! If I get on with it well I'll buy another one for work. I've heard great things about these balls haha.
Going asda tonight so will look at the bras whilst I'm there too. Hopefully something will give me some relief!

It's worth a go! Have you looked at support belts too? I never used one, but people did recommend them.

I ended up leaving at 34 weeks, my pelvic pain was just making the job impossible.

ExpectingFirst · 09/07/2018 17:14

No, not looked into those but have been advised that the bump support bands are good. I don't feel like I need any support for the bump yet though?

Luckily I've had it fairly easy so far apart from a bit of hip pain when I walk too much. It's just the pain in my ribs is just too much! I'll give the ball & bra a go and see if either of them help first. Then look into bump support options.

Wish I was in your position! I'm the complete opposite with doing 8/10 hour shifts 5 days a week standing continuously with 30 mins break to sit down!! Maybe you could speak to your manager to see if you would be allowed 5-10 mins every 1.5/2 hours to stretch your legs? X

Also 24 weeks and I sit on a ball. It really helps!

ExpectingFirst · 09/07/2018 20:00

@sunflower2018 I feel for you! Could not imagine how you feel!! Feel bad for moaning now haha.

Has anyone got any advice what to do with this ball? Do I just bounce on it or roll my hips etc?

OP posts:

I sit on it as I would chair. It means I'm constantly changing position and I do sometimes bounce about.

PinstripeElephant · 10/07/2018 09:29

I did a bit of everything! I found by using it as a chair I sort of subconsciously rotated my hips/rolled back and forth/bounced.

Despite doing this for 8 hours minimum every day though, DS was still two weeks late Grin so don't buy into any of that 'it'll help them come faster' twaddle.
