Looking for a double buggy for a newborn and a 20 month old (she’s only small and won’t be ready to walk long distances/around town for a while) that will fit into your average sized car boot??
Looking at a Phil and Teds...anyone have one and would recommend?

We borrowed a Phil and teds off a friend after we had our second child, and I loved it, DH loved it. Best thing ever. Luckily we were able to keep it until the DC grew out of it. Can’t rate it enough.

Following! I will have a 2 year 7 month gap, but not convinced that we won't need a double (at least when I'm on my own with both children) as my son asks to be carried a lot and I think I'd like the reassurance of being able to strap him in in certain circumstances (as opposed to using a buggy board). I kind of want a side-by-side rather than a stacked one. Have heard good things about Baby Jogger and Mountain Buggy doubles.

What I would definitely recommend is taking the buggies for a quick spin around the shop. I know it seems obvious that a double is going to handle differently from a single but I couldn’t believe the difference! I found the Baby Jogger really hard to manoeuvre, like I had to put my whole body into trying to turn it. And it’s quite long too. The UppaBaby Vista was so easy to manoeuvre, it turns corners quite easily. We ended up getting the Silver Cross wave because we got a great deal on it but it’s not the easiest to get up and down curbs and that’s with only child in it!
The shop we bought it in also had weight bags so you could load the buggy up and really get a great idea of what it’s like to push a buggy with 2 children, which was quite handy!
Good luck with your buggy shopping!

Definitely recommend going to try them out with your toddler - I wanted a tandem double but my son who is tall with short legs, was too long in the body for most of them. I ended up with a baby jogger side by side and a carrycot for it. Loved it before moving onto a buggy board!

I got a phil and teds dot. One of the few that would fit in my car boot.

I tried to look at them in person before choosing but there was nowhere near us that has doubles in the shop. Had to go by online specs and a tape measure in the end.
