Am getting quite concerned. Over the past week or so my bump has shrunk, it appears thinner width ways & just genrally smaller. Am abit concerned that I have been leaking water but haven't had any gushes or drips that I am aware of, apart from what I thought were tena lady moments, when I sit down but have done the sniff test and I am sure its urine.

I also appear to of lost weight around my body (bum, arms & boobs) not sure why as have been eating the same as always.

My main concern is that the baby is losing weight in there. Could that be possible? I am sure this is what happened with dd2 who was born at 42 weeks and only weighed 5lbs 9oz.

Has anyone else had this experience of losing weight at term please?

It's more likely to be baby dropping further down as opposed to actually shrinking.
May be worth checking with midwife re waters/urine leaking just to be on the safe side.

My3girls...if you are very concerned ring your midwfe, you bump does appear narrower/smaller once the head engages ime, but as i said if you really are worried give them a call.

Thanks for the replies

Thought that could be the reason, RE baby dropping but my bump is still quite high so not sure.

Midwife care here is a bit pants (no one ever there). Will call the delivery suite I think.

Best of luck my3girs

sounds like its nothing horrible

but always bst to get it checked out

feeling broody now!

lulumama · 27/05/2007 09:16

call them!

your bump can drop and change shape as baby engages and gets ready for birth

also if your DD2 was born 2 weeks over and weighted 5 lb 9, then you might produce small babies

has your placenta been checked?

burstingbug · 27/05/2007 09:17

Lulu has spoken , give them a call!

Thanks for the advice everyone

Just got back from the hospital. Everything seems fine. Was monitered for a bit, had full anti-natal. Was checked by the consultant who said baby was "right down" although midwife said the baby was free during the CTC and said she was in a something transverse position. Real little wiggler this baby [hmm, They think whilst moving durin CTC she got herself in position LOL (trying to prove what a clever girl she is before the consultant got to her me thinks).

Also the poor midwife had to sniff my pad after getting me to cough to see if it was my waters but nope its pee TMI sorry .

The midwife wanted me to stay in but after consultant checked he said I could come home yeyyyyy!! Oh and I said I was worried about the baby losing weight and the consultant said I promise this baby is no smaller than at least 7.5lbs Really chuffed about that!!

Anyhow thanks again all

sounds like your membranes have ruptured? Midwives stopped weighing women in pregnancy because there is no evidence to support continuing the practice. Its very outdated.
You must contact your maternity delivery suite for advice and give them this history today. Is your baby still moving normally?
