Hi there. For those who have been prescribed 5mg folic acid when did you stop taking it please?

With my first baby nobody told me to stop so I took it throughout my pregnancy. This time the midwife has advised 14 weeks but I’m unsure so I’m going to ask the consultant when I meet them at first scan. I would ask your consultant or midwife at your next appointment :-)

Ive been told to keep taking mine the whole way through pregnancy as I'm on that strength due to other medications which I can't stop taking. Best to check with your midwife

spugzbunny · 07/07/2018 21:23

I was told 20 weeks

Sometimes it depends on the country. Can't remember when I was told, think maybe 20 weeks. Spanish friend told to take till baby came.

I had hyperemesis (extreme vomiting) in pregnancy. I was admitted to hospital at 7-8 wks and asked the Dr if there was cause for concern regarding folic acid and the fact I was puking up the tablet daily. He was adamant that I didn't need to worry as the critical window had already passed and actually taking it pre-conception / v.v. early pregnancy is most important - by the time most people find out they're pregnant, it's too late for the folic acid to make a difference anyway Confused

Midwife just told me to take until the end of the packet I was prescribed at my booking in appointment (was about 13ish weeks then)

I'm still taking it nearly 2 years later as the GP is still prescribing it!

It depends why they have prescribed it

It was a precautionary really because I had had 2 mc...
