Leaking amniotic fluid or pregnancy paranoia?

Hi All

I think i'm probably just being paranoid but here goes. I am 29wks today and for the last week or so whenever I go to the loo my knickers are really wet, I wouldn't say soaked but by the end of the day they are quite wet. It seems to be worse on the days when I have alot of braxton hicks (I get about 30 a day if i'm running around)

So I suppose what i'm asking is if i'm weeing myself or if it's fluid, is there anyway of telling other than phoning the midwife (not really much point tomorrow as it's a sunday and I wouldn't of thought they could do much)

Any advice welcome

midwives can check whether its fluid or not. You ought to get it checked; at least speak to someone. If you are leaking fluid you need to see someone. I'd ring now tbh. You'll have an out of hours number.

NoBiggy · 26/05/2007 21:51

When I suspected that was happening I phoned on a Sat evening and they wanted me to go in. Got checked over and they used like a litmus paper thing to see if it was fluid.

So yes, give them a shout.

Oh god really? I thought you were all going to say sod off you silly bint your weeing yourself.

It sounds like my last pregnancy with DD. I was losing water for weeks and thought i was leaking pee, and was too embrassed to say
The reason showed up on a scan when the noticed i wasnt measuring as big as meant to. Midwifes can check if water or wee with a swab. I woulld ring and go to maternity and get checked .
Good luck, let us know

Hi

Well on your advice I rang the midwife this morning and i've got to go in to get checked over. Thanks for telling me to I'm more of a "wait and see how it pans out" kind of person

oh honey !

could be increased discharge, common in late pregnancy

could be a hindwater leak, which will reseal and replenish

amniotic fluid smells sweet, not like wee

or you are weeing yourself you silly bint !

seriously, hope all is well

lulumamasmentee · 27/05/2007 12:44

Just got back, it was only increased discharge (well done lulumama!). Dr was v surprised at the amount of it though and I got to see my braxtons on the monitor which was interesting.

So all good here, thanks for advice everyone

glad you are ok !

NoBiggy · 27/05/2007 16:20

Beneath your serene expectant mother demeanour you're actually dribbling all manner of goo!

Never mind, it's all part and parcel!

Glad all OK.

lulumamasmentee · 27/05/2007 16:24

lol at nobiggy, you've got to love the dignity of pregnancy!!

I must say though that the hospital were fab, I got to lie in bed for 2hrs the midwife brought me tea, biscuits and magazines and i had more peace and quiet than i've had all pregnancy so a big thumbs up to Colchester General and the lovely midwife. Bit of a shame i'm having a home birth now the hospital seems lovely (only joking I CANT WAIT!! )

oh flip

i've just been to the loo and I am spotting lightly bright red blood. The doctor used a speculum today to examine me and said afterwards that I might have some brown/reddy discharge is this the same thing?????????????

Help please anyone

It sounds like it but I can understand you being worried (as I would be the same). Can you ring the hospital and see what they say? I'm sure it will be ok.

NoBiggy · 27/05/2007 21:44

You've probably had a little scratch from being examined.

If you can feel the baby move you're more than likely OK.

Give them a call, if it doesn't carry on I'm sure they'll tell you to disregard it.

Makes you wonder why pregnancy remains so popular!

lulumama · 27/05/2007 22:13

oh ! probably just from being examined...spotting, not bleeding? call if you are worried...waht a day !

lulumamasmentee · 27/05/2007 23:48

I can't see anymore and she did say it might happen. But that internal was flipping uncomfortable, reminded me of my sweep last time, so not happening this time around!!

Thanks for replies x

How are you this morning?

lulumamasmentee · 28/05/2007 09:11

Fine, if you excuse the fact that DP walked in the door at 6.10 this morning rather the worse for wear so won't be good for anything today

But no more bleeding, everything just feels sore (how the hell am I gonna get this baby out!! )
