Did anyone find out gender at 12 week scan?

I Have read that some people have actually found out the gender of their baby at the 12 week scan but, wanted to find out from some of you. Apparently if its a boy it is possible to see this on the 12 week.

Anybody on here found out earlier?

I didn’t find out officially (it’s far too early to tell as genitals are not formed) but I guessed using the nub theory.

The only way you can find out for sure that early is with a blood test which are generally done for screening purposes

I don’t think you can. I think 16 weeks is earliest (private scan).

BossWitch · 05/07/2018 10:18

You can't find out the sex that early. People guess, there's a 50/50 chance, so some guesses are right and they say they found out at 12 weeks. Ignore them!

I think they must be using the nub theory. However I wouldn’t pay much heed to this - I posted my son’s 12 week scan pic and was told he was definitely a girl haha.

We asked for a guess (knowing it was too early and thinking she wouldn't) but she did have a guess (you should know that my 12 week scan was actually at 14 weeks) and her guess was confirmed at the 20 week scan. I would not have put any weight on it's accuracy though even at 14 weeks and I don't think she would have had a guess if she thought we were going take her answer as a sure thing.

A friend of mine reckons he saw his boys bits at the 12-week scan, has announced it to everyone he's having a boy already. I do wonder whether he could have been mistaken?

BossWitch · 05/07/2018 12:43

Unless your friend is a qualified, experienced sonographer, my guess is he doesn't know what he saw!

BlingLoving · 05/07/2018 12:45

Nah, pretty much impossible. Even at 16 weeks, it can be difficult. My doctor looked at 16 week scan and said she was 80% sure it was a girl but a later scan would confirm.

Sugarskulllover · 05/07/2018 12:50

I did...Blush when the sonographer had a look between the legs there was something there. My DH pointed it out but the sonographer said she couldn't confirm as it could have been a clitoris. My honest thought was if that was a clitoris god help the poor girl. Anyway we had a private gender scan at 16 weeks and it was confirmed to be a boy and has been done so at every scan since!

Mousefunky · 05/07/2018 12:56

Based on nub theory which isn’t 100% and I’d never actually heard of it until this pregnancy. My nub theory was correct though but I did have my scan at 13+5 which is obviously late.

wolfywynnie · 05/07/2018 13:02

18 years ago at my 12 week scan, the sonographer told me she was pretty sure it was a boy. It was Smile

bmak · 05/07/2018 13:44

whats the nub theory?

We went to a sonographer who is renowned in our city for 100% correct ‘guesses’ at 12 weeks scans. No extra cost. Heard about him on the mummy grapevine. He was true to form- she was indeed a girl. He’s been doing it over 30 years and even his receptionist confirms she’s never heard him get it wrong!

I’d like to have that level of talent in something, for sure!

BigCarrot · 05/07/2018 13:52

It's inaccurate before 16 weeks as their genitals are still developing. Most sonographers could probably tell but can't be sure so they wouldn't say. Most 12 week scans have a nub visible, theory didn't work for mine though or any of the theories about positioning in the womb. I suppose there's a 50/50 chance of it being right Grin
