Wet / waxy ears - pregnancy symptom?

I am 8+2 and have had wetness in my ears on and off for at least 3 weeks. It’s in both ears but in one more than then other at certain times then changes. At times it seems like it’s gone but then comes back.

No pain but sometimes a slight smell (sorry if TMI) which due to pregnancy is particularly bothersome. They have mostly calmed down which I think is as I have tried to avoid getting water in my ears but still there a bit.

Haven’t been to the doctors as I already have a few appointments in the next few weeks and it’s not painful but it is annoying and not helping with the nausea. And also work don’t know I’m pregnant yet.

Has anyone experienced this? Any advice please?

4th pregnancy and have never had this or even heard of it being a pregnancy symptom.

I think its more likely you have an ear infection, especially as you say it smells. Go to the GP and see what they say

I did have ear infections in early pregnancy. But I tend to get a lot of them anyway. Also, eczema flare ups on my ears, owch. Usually the practice nurse can be seen for straightforward ear infections. Mine prescribed a spray which sorted things out. And yes, they do recommend keeping water out of your ears. I sometimes wear ear plugs in the shower.

@poptart I did a Goole search and a few old forum posts came up suggesting people experienced wet / waxy ears pregnancy

Pharmacist said not an infection if not painful...

Dingdong thanks. Yes it’s difficult keeping water out. I am reluctant to put anything in my ears but maybe earplugs are the way to go.

It’s just annoying more than anything!

I have had this all through my pregnancy. It's weird. Sometimes my neck is sticky with wax - even though I clean them every day. I don't have an infection and never had excess wax before so I guess it is a preggo thing.

I had really waxy ears when pregnant. Never had issues with it before so I would say yes it probably is related. 3 weeks post partum now and my ears are normal again!

Could be sinus related, it's all connected and they do say pregnancy can give you a stuffy nose and increased mucus. My hayfever sometimes affects my ears.

I think this is pregnancy related as mine started at about 8 weeks. On my right side I now feel like I have a big build up of wax and it’s so bloody itchy. Doctor says normal for pregnancy and will go away after baby is born. But Soooooo annoying. I’m so tempted to keep sticking cotton buds down there but know it’s not right. Good luck with your ears.

Ear infections don't always cause pain.

Go to the doctor.

I made lots of earwax when pregnant and none before or since. But no odd feelings. I'd go to the doctor to check.
