How long was your second labour?

Rooroo1012 · 04/07/2018 10:16

My first labour was 36 hours from start to finish. I think my established labour was about 5 hours and an hour pushing.

I'm currently 23 weeks with DS2 and starting to think about what this one might entail.

Who has had a quicker labour second time around?

Me!

26 hours first time around - and that was 26 hours of constant strong contractions.

20 minutes second time. Waters broke around 2am, labour started 7.25am, baby born 7.45am. Could have sprinted home well maybe not really sprinted

Cadencia · 04/07/2018 10:24

Me too!

First labour - 20 hours established labour (from 5cm)
Second labour - 3.5 hours from first contraction

youngestisapsycho · 04/07/2018 10:33

I've never understood the 'start' of labour... 2nd DC i was having mild contractions in the evening, me and DH went out to Pizza Express. By 4am they were long and frequent... DH drove me to hospital and DD was born 45 mins after I arrived at 5.55am! It was all very quick thankfully Grin

ParkheadParadise · 04/07/2018 10:40

Me.
Dd1 was 19hrs.
Dd2 my water's broke when I was out just made it to the hospital. 40mins in total.

PickledLilly · 04/07/2018 10:43

Both of mine took bloody forever. I had my second at home and I didn’t call the midwife out until my contractions were coming thick and fast and I couldn’t talk to them. I was 6cm when she arrived and he still took another ten hours to arrive 😡

Maybugger · 04/07/2018 10:46

35 minutes from waters breaking to being delivered - we were both in shock!

MamaLupine · 04/07/2018 10:48

4 hours with first, an hour and 45 mins with the second.

MumMuuumMummy · 04/07/2018 10:49

First one was 1 hour 22 minutes
Second was 33 minutes

CoodleMoodle · 04/07/2018 10:50

Hi OP, 38 weeks pregnant with DC2 here and wondering the same... My first wasn't as long as yours, although I'm not sure how long I was in labour because I had pre-eclampsia and was in agony from head to toe for about two days beforehand! But I was definitely in actual labour for at least 12 hours.

Hoping for a quicker one this time - I'll let you know in a couple of weeks Wink Good luck to you!

Mybabystolemysanity · 04/07/2018 10:52

I thought my second would be much quicker. Had an ARM with both. Dilated spontaneously with first but needed Synto for second. Both very similar otherwise and baby born six hours after water breaking with no pushing effort on my part! DD 7lbs 12, DS 8lbs 2 at 39 and 38 weeks respectively.

littlemisssunshine81 · 04/07/2018 10:54

#1 was 19 hours from the first contraction. #2 was 3 hours from the first contraction. Currently at 30 weeks with #3 and by my calculations this one should take max half an hour 😁

Namechangemum100 · 04/07/2018 11:00

Me :)

Dd was around 30 hours, 6 pushing.

Dd was around 9 hours total...no joke, he was out in 2 pushes...all 9lb8 of him!

Mousefunky · 04/07/2018 11:02

My first was 24 hours from first real contraction to delivery. Second was six hours. Third went back up to twelve hours though so have no idea what to expect with my fourth.

Rooroo1012 · 04/07/2018 11:03

Wow! Thanks for all your stories.
Apart from one or two, it sounds like the second time around is much faster.
Being that my first was 36hrs, I'm really hoping it cuts by at least half!Grin
@CoodleMoodle - good luck, let us know how it goes and fingers crossed for a quicker time! x

Established labour (so when contractions are every 2-3mins), 19minutes. I'd been functioning normally until that point. Waters didn't break (baby was born in them), my husband had to break them on delivery. We didn't make it to hospital and the ambulance arrived after baby was born.

My first was about 12 hours!

juneau · 04/07/2018 11:16

1st labour: 16 hours
2nd labour: 2.5 hours. I only just got to hospital in time!

Beware - second labours can be MUCH quicker. I was totally unprepared for such a quick one - but I found out afterwards that it's really common for them to be fast.

jusdepamplemousse · 04/07/2018 11:22

1st - about 10 hours, 45 mins of which was pushing

2nd - just under 2 hours, about 5 minutes pushing. Went from 4cm to 10cm in about 20 minutes. Intense and no time for pain relief 😱 but brilliant to have it over so quickly in retrospect.

WhirlingTurkey · 04/07/2018 13:00

@Namechangemum100 you pushed for six hours?! How?!

Following this thread. My first labour was quick, but I was induced so no idea if it would have been so quick without the drip, and wondering what natural labour will be like in terms of length.

Stiddleficks · 04/07/2018 13:02

My first was 38 hours, my second was 50 mins!

JohnsonsSpreadsheet · 04/07/2018 13:02

Even bloody faster than the first and that was quick, I wouldn't risk a 3rd as we couldn't get to hospital quick enough.

Second was about 3 hours from first twinge to finish.

isambardo · 04/07/2018 13:06

First was 33 hours.
Second was 1hr 40.
I’m pregnant with the third now.....feeling slightly nervous! Blush

HJL2506 · 04/07/2018 13:06

My DA1 was 2 hour labour 😱
I'm hoping I don't go the opposite and have a long labour with DS2 due in October.

However I was induced and on the drip with my first and apparently that's a lot more intense 😫

HJL2506 · 04/07/2018 13:07

My DS1^

lollilolli · 04/07/2018 13:18

1st labour - 3.5 hours
2nd labour - 20 minutes

31 weeks pregnant with number 3 and absolutely terrified of when and where it's gonna happen this time and if I'll make it to the hospital!!

Rooroo1012 · 04/07/2018 14:59

@Stiddleficks - thats one hell of a difference!

Ok next question to you lovely ladies - do you think it hurt more the second time around as it was much quicker?

Thanks so much for all the stories.
