Toothache help!!

I woke up at 2am with the worst toothache! Managed to get a dentist appointment who said it was either due to trauma from grinding my teeth or that I need root canal. Can't x-ray to determine which so sent me away with antibiotics to try before drilling anything.

I'm still in soo much pain though, the paracetamol isn't helping much and nearly at the max I can take of it.
Anyone have any other remedies that might work?! Can't bear the pain much longer!

Why can’t you have x rays??

unicornchaser · 02/07/2018 22:20

Radiation from the x-ray is a risk when pregnant

Did your dentist tell you that??

The risk of the radiation affecting the baby is very, very low. Lead aprons and screens are even available to “protect” the foetus but this is more to reassure apprehensive mothers.

I’d really strongly suggest having the necessary x rays so you know what’s wrong with the tooth and what can be done. Otherwise you’d have to potentially just suffer with a horrible toothache until your baby is born; there’s just no need to.

Anbusol for teething has local anesthetic in it, maybe worth a bash?
I know a warm/hot compress helps ear infections, might help? If not warm try cold?
Swirl your mouth with whisky?
I'm no pharmacist, but I'd personally take a dose of coocodamol in place of paracetamol, preferably before bed. Women and prescribed stronger during pregnancy if required and definitely given stronger during labour so I imagine a small dose as a one off must be fine if it just gets you some relief.
Actually, send your partner to the local late night pharmacy and get them to ask for everything and anything you can take.
And lots and lots of sympathy. Hope it clears soon.

Well I caved and phoned 111. Told me teething stuff wouldn't help so got an out of hours appointment for some cocodamol.
Hopefully will knock me out and the antibiotics will kick in tomorrow!

The antibiotics will do absolutely nothing unless it’s definitely an infection though.
