Advice needed (TTC/coming off pill)

Hi everyone.
Newbie here but I thought this would be the best place for some advice.
Long story short, I’m 31 and have been on various pill brands since I was 15. I have no children but I do have a lot of hassle with the pill and currently have taken a break from one brand to start another brand next week. I’m currently on cilest and I’ve read very bad reports about it (although everyone has different experiences with it).
I’m happy at this stage in my life to look at starting a family. I’m torn between finishing with the pill altogether now with no pressure of becoming pregnant or starting a new brand of pills and finding it hard to conceive next year. We had discussed me coming off the pill after Christmas so it would mean a little early than planned but with having such a bad experience with problems due to the pill I’m half thinking that it might take me a while to get pregnant anyway, it’s a long shot but has anyone any advice on how long it took after coming off cilest? I’ve read it takes some women over a year.
I am totally confused. Thanks in advance

I'd been on microgynon for 15 years. Took me 18 months to conceive. I suggest coming off sooner rather than later. It takes a whole for your natural cycle to return.

I was on microgynon for 10 years and conceived after 3 months after coming off it. Maybe talk to your gp as mine had said to me that your cycle can return to normal immediately (which mine did) as I also had concerns about how long it would take to conceive

I was on Rigevidon for about 6 years before coming off it before that i was on other brands that didnt suit me. I had a bleed about a week later after finishing the pill (think they call this a withdrawal bleed) then after that my normal periods returned and i got pregnant after 6 months. Very lucky that it didnt take long. I was going to wait for abit longer but like you wasn’t sure how long it would take so just come off it.

I was also on Mycrogynon/Rigevidon for about 16 years and it took me 14 months to conceive. I may just be irregular anyway but it can take a while!

Just for timings we started TTC Christmas 2016 and mine will be born in Nov 2018, almost 2 years later!

I wasn’t a regular user but I took rigevidon on holidays and during honeymoon to stop my periods and the week after honeymoon my period came and I got pregnant that very cycle.

I'd stop taking anything now if you are definitely happy to get pregnant from now. You can always use condoms for a while too if you want to prevent a bit longer.
I haven't been on hormonal contraceptives for over 10 years due to all the issues I had with it (tried various types, plus implant) and it's the best thing I ever did TBH. Conceived DC1 in 5 months and currently pregnant with DC2 - got pregnant the first month trying. I know I may just be lucky but I have heard so many stories of women taking a long time to conceive after a long time on hormonal contraceptives.

Just to add I also was on microgynon for 10 years and got pregnant 2 months after stopping so it doesn't always take ages.

slylyeatingbiscuits · 02/07/2018 18:44

Same as @boodles101 here - I was on the pill for 10 years and was pregnant 6 weeks after coming off it Smile so might not take as long as you expect.

Thanks everyone for the replies! It had been suggested to me that it may take a long while with me being such a long user of the pill, it has been a nightmare over the years, constant spotting now so it’ll be good to get clear of it out of my system for a while!
You’ve all put my mind at ease so thank you for that. And who knows, you could be hearing from me soon again in the future Smile x

I’ve never taken cilest but I got pregnant twice the 2nd month after stopping the pill (and then a third time without going back on the pill). My two healthy pregnancies were when I was 32 and 37. I had no problems at all and my cycles were regular right away (this after 14 years straight followed by another 5 years on the pill). I agree if you don’t want to be pregnant stay on the pill if it works for you. Any problems you might have will be unrelated to the pill as it flushed out of your body pretty quickly (hence how it’s possible to get pregnant even if you miss just one pill!). Good luck.

Agree with PP - I had been on the pill for 14 years pretty consistently... I stopped pill on Honeymoon thinking it could take months.. I was pregnant within 3 weeks !! Took me about 4 months to get used to the idea that we were actually having a baby now...
It's different for everyone of course - but be ready, it can happen immediately !
