First time mum 40+6 days had my second sweep today and lost my mucus plug and a few blood cots.
Having really intense period pains that ate coming and going and back ache.

I rang midwife as was worried about the blood clot but she said all sounds okay and that it could be start of things but I don't need to come in.

Didn't have this with the first sweep just had a bit of spotting.

Don't think I'm having contractions as all hurts low down an just feels uncomfortable when my stomach tenses rather than painful.

Sounds like something could be starting but no need to go anywhere yet. Make sure your bag is packed and find a timer app to time contractions, just in case. Good luck

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 01/07/2018 19:33

It could be... all conditions sound right. Just keep an eye on your symptoms, time any tightenings, etc.
Even if it is early labour... it could still be days. Good luck!

Bellaposy · 01/07/2018 19:45

Could definitely be the start but doesn't necessarily mean baby is imminent. I lost my plug a week before my daughter was born but you're heading in the right direction Smile good luck OP!

Puddleducks123 · 01/07/2018 19:56

Sounds like me after my first sweep. So uncomfortable but thought it couldn’t be labour as not too regular - 6 mins, then 10 mins then 4 mins etc. Suddenly every 3 mins and boom baby arrived 12 hours post sweep. No blood clots though.

Mumtobeluc · 01/07/2018 19:57

Thanks guys really don't want get my hopes up as don't think I'm having contractions as all lower back and period cramp feelings

Contractions do feel like period cramps to start with.. and they can present in the front or back, just keep an eye on it.

They do say to have a warm bath, if they ease off it’s not true labour just yet. How true that is I’m not sure!

Mumtobeluc · 01/07/2018 20:00

The pressure done there very is intense just feel like I need to walk or have a pillow between my knees.

@Mumtobeluc my contractions were all in my back and it just felt like pressure and needing to poo - my daughter was back to back

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 01/07/2018 20:02

Walking helps with labour.. just do what you need to be as comfy as possible!

Vampyress · 01/07/2018 20:34

It sounds like it could be early labour. My only advice beyond previous posters is to wear a maternity towel in your pants so if your waters break you can see the colour. If it is a green khaki colour then get yourself to the maternity ward as it means meconium (babies first poop) has happened inside you and they will need to monitor you both closely. Both my boys were poopers lol and it can happen when you are overdue. My youngest literally exploded just as he was delivered and the midwife had it on her forehead Blush. Wishing you lots of luck and a smooth delivery when baby decides to arrive!!

This is how I knew I was (finally) in proper labour with my first. It definitely sounds like things are getting started so I hope you don't have too long to wait! Good luck!

Pinkgeorge · 01/07/2018 20:48

Good luck OP xx

birdonawire1 · 01/07/2018 20:50

Is your pain constant?

InNeedOfALieInNow · 01/07/2018 20:51

Sounds like my labour. My contractions weren’t more than intense/uncomfortable until nearly 7cm. Good luck

MumOfTwoMasterOfNone · 01/07/2018 20:53

Good luck OP. Also just wanted to say, if you're ever feeling worried, don't worry about going in. Always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to baby and you and you aren't wasting anyone's time.
I've had a few sweeps in my time. Unfortunately none have been effective, although I lost my plug. Definitely no blood clots though.
Thanks

4GreenApples · 01/07/2018 21:00

DS1 was back to back, and the pain from my contractions was all in my back until very near the pushing stage. Not even any period cramp feeling, just backache.

I spent most of the early stages of labour at home convinced that the weirdly intermittent backache couldn’t be contractions because the pain was all in my back and none in my front. When I finally went into the maternity ward to get checked out, worrying that I’d get laughed out of there, I was almost 3 cms dilated Blush Blush

DS1 was born about 3 hours after that.

Good luck OP

cornishmumtobe · 01/07/2018 21:00

Sounds like the start of labour to me!

Mumtobeluc · 01/07/2018 21:07

Thanks everyone for your advice. Really appreciate it.

The pain isn't constant coming and going my partners timing it because we're watching the football an he thinks they are every 6 mins but I'm not convinced they are contractions yet still in my groin lower abdomen.

The midwife said loosing my plug and the blood clots sound normal after a sweep and that I don't need to come in yet but hopefully they'll see me soon. Haha

I was only couple cm when I had sweep and 90 effaced and 3/5 engaged or pallable? same I was in the last sweep I had on Wednesday so thought the sweep wouldn't do much again.

I didn't have these pains though last time just had spotting so I'm trying stay positive but not getting ahead of myself in case I'm like this for days yet.

I would definitely recommend having a soak in the bath, if they carry on then it's most likely early labour if they ease off then more likely irritability caused by the sweep. Got everything crossed for you that it's the first one!

Tiredmum100 · 01/07/2018 21:16

My first labour started off similar, just had really bad period pain. It gradually got worse through out the afternoon. Try having a bath.

Bluebirdsky · 02/07/2018 18:21

How are you feeling today @Mumtobeluc?

WhirlingTurkey · 02/07/2018 18:40

Hope you're doing OK OP. Early contractions definitely very much like period pains for me. Fingers crossed it is the start for you!

Mumtobeluc · 03/07/2018 17:25

Congratulations @Mumtobeluc 💖

Bluebirdsky · 03/07/2018 17:41

Congratulations @Mumtobeluc that's lovely news.
I am 40+2 today and feeling a lot of what you described, lots of low down period type pain, lots of heavy pressure (feel like I just want to sit on the toilet permanently!) so hoping I won't be too far behind you!
