Cot mattress storage

Hi all
I’m after some advice on the stoage of a cot mattress. I have purchased one recently but I don’t need to use it straight away as baby will be in Moses basket.
It came in a plastic / celophabe wrapping. Is it safe to keep it wrapped up for a while to keep clean / dust free? I’m abit concern d about the heat wave at the moment and whether the plastic could get too hot and rel arse chemicals to the mattress (mattress has already been in an extremely hot car for a few hours which is concerning me)
Any advice? Xx

Keep it wrapped and in the house (not loft, cellar or garage). 3 weeks before you want to use it take it out of packagi g and allow it to air as they often have an odour to them.

Exactly what @Wellthisunexpected said. Smile

Do you think heat will affect the plastic it’s wrapped in?

Also, do you think I have bought too early? I do t expect to use until she’s at least 6 months (baby not born yet!) and I have limited space. I was going g to put in cot but was worried it would pick up dust etc not being used for so long x

We bought ours around 21w (I'm now 27+5) and I'm keeping it in the cot but wrapped in the plastic to keep it clean. It never even occurred to me to worry about the heat with the plastic but I very much doubt there's anything to worry about if you're keeping it in the house.

After reading this thread I will unwrap it a few weeks before she arrives, seems like good advice to give it a bit of an airing, thanks ladies!

You might want to let her lie in there sometimes while you're doing things so I don't think it's too early. Once its in place I'd just put a sheet on and change it every couple of weeks whether you've used it or not.
