I don't know if anyone has any experience with this but basically I was told on Thursday that I had an ectopic pregnancy. My HCG levels were around 530 and I was kept in and monitored in case I needed surgery. They went down to around 200 and I was sent home and told to come back today for a blood test.

Just had the hospital call to say my levels have gone back up to around 400 and I need to go back in prepped for potential surgery tomorrow.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Or ectopics or the surgery in general?

Really frightening myself that it might have ruptured or something.

Thanks

I’ve not experienced this, but at least they are acting quickly..

I’m so sorry you’re having to go through this 😔

Does it hurt? I really have no knowledge but I’d assume if anything was ruptured there would be pain, and also.. if they thought that might happen, they’d call you in for emergency surgery.
The last time I had a pregnancy go wrong, they booked me in for emergency surgery first thing the next morning.. wasn’t an ectopic though.

Have you got your DP at home with you?

I had one. It didn't rupture but I get the impression you would know if it had and if you are heading back in (are they keeping you overnight?) at least you'll be in the right place if it does.

I had my right tube removed. The surgery was under general so can't remember much apart from going in and coming round in recovery. The anesthetist came to the ward first to introduce themselves and went I went down everyone introduced themselves.

It was keyhole surgery late in the evening and I was discharged by lunch the next day. I have 3 little scars, one at the belly button and one on each side as they thought it was at the left to start. The worst bit of recovery was due to fact they pump you full of air that has to then work it's way out (gave me shoulder pain). Mint and fennel tea helped or was a good placebo. I was signed off work for two weeks and glad to get back and keep busy.

This was 2 years ago and I have been pregnant twice since. The first didn't have a happy ending but this was unrelated to the ectopic. The second is due late this year. It doesn't seem to have effected my fertility but obviously everyone is different and some of it depends on what the cause of the ectopic was. They reckon mine was due to scar tissue from a previous c section.

Your risk of further ectopics goes from 1 in 85 to 100 ish up to 1 in 10 (but again this depends on what might have triggered it in the first place). For any future pregnancies you can go to your epu for early scans so if you are unlucky again they catch it early and treat it with medicine.

Good luckFlowers
