I'm 11 weeks pregnant and once I have my 12 week scan next week I'm going to tell my family. However I'm not so sure I want to tell work just yet. There's been a lot going on and I very much doubt they will be happy for me., in fact I think they will be annoyed and feel inconvenienced!

When did you tell your work?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

12 weeks for the reason of being anxious about maternity pay etc. Also, they do have to carry a risk assessment out so if you have a job involving any manual labour you may have to tell them in order to avoid any work that is unsafe. You don't have to tell them for a while though if you choose not to.

It can be daunting to tell work but there are a lot of policies and legislation to protect pregnant women that won't apply if they don't know. Also, they tend to need to have your Mat B1 form by a certain date to sort out your maternity leave/pay.

Good luck! x

About 6 weeks all 3 times - they were the first people to know after my DH. I needed time off for things like booking in appointments and I didn’t want to lie to them.

I told my work at 7 weeks. I didn’t want to but I had to work from home that day because I felt so unwell

In dribs and drabs. I'd had a mmc 4 months prior and a lot went wrong and needed 2 weeks off. I started bleeding at 5 weeks and wanted them to be prepared that I might need more time off so I told my line manager in confidence. At 6 weeks the rest of my department found out as the only toilet is next to the office of a gossip and I was horrendously sick but I didn't officially tell the boss until 12 weeks and tell HR until 25 weeks (although we have our meetings together once a week so it was common knowledge long before).

Im also worried about telling work, I've got a positive test but my first appointment isn't until the 16th (tbc though as may be 12 weeks by that point)
But unsure if I should tell my manager tomorrow when I go to work as my job can sometimes involve heavy lifting (boxes of silicone, hinges, kitchen doors etc) Even boxes of paper. Any advice? xx

6 weeks because my job is safety critical. Plus i had terrible morning sickness so was easier that they knew. Congratulations 🎊

I waited until 18 weeks. Would have waited longer but thought I better get it done before people started guessing!

7 weeks. I work in childcare with 0-3 year olds which involves a lot of pick up of children for nappy changes. My manager is not the most sympathetic when it comes to sickness but can’t discriminate obvs now 😉

12 weeks. I was desperate to get into maternity jeans and I had been saying no to coffee/tea rounds for 5 weeks by then.
