9+1 but measuring 5-6wks no heartbeat

Hi everyone,

This is my second pregnancy after my first ended in miscarriage at 6-7 weeks back in April. Had the bleed start on the 27 April for 4 days and then took two tests which confirmed not pregnant.
We tried again and I got a positive test on 27 May which would put me now at 9+4.
I had some very light discharge, Brown in colour, start on Wednesday last week and then stop for a day, then come back and then stop. Had an early scan at the EPAU on Tuesday when I would have been 9+1 and it was awful...they asked me lots of questions and kept the screen turned away from us and we could tell something was wrong. They asked if I’d had a c section before but I’ve had no children; they asked if I’d had abnormal smear results but I’ve never had one - eventually they said that there is a fetal pole and measuring 5-6 weeks but too small to see a heartbeat. We discussed my dates and everything and were told that we should prepare for miscarriage as it just doesn’t seem right that the dates could be out like this. I go back on Tuesday for a follow up scan.

Really worried and desperate just to know if the little thing is still growing or not... with the mc and no period between I’m hanging on to hope that all will be ok and it’s just confused, but I know I have to steel myself for the news that it hasn’t grown.

Have read lots of different stories but suppose just looking for any similar stories, where the mc happened so close to the next positive test and it turned out ok?

Have been thinking about it and was so close to not phoning the EPAU in the first place as the discharge stopped as soon as it started and it was nothing like the miscarriage symptoms I had previously, so if that was the case then I would be blissfully unaware until 12 week scan when potentially could have been told that the baby wasn’t alive :( x

Thinking of you at this worrying time. I had a MMC in January and found out at my 12 week scan that the baby was only measuring 8-9 weeks with no HB.

I took a test on 23rd March which came back positive. I did have one period between the MC and positive test... I went for an early scan and it showed nothing, 2 days later showed an empty sac, 1 week later a fetal pole and HB measuring around 6 weeks ish. I am now 18+2.

From what I have read and researched there should be a heart beat detectable by 6 weeks. It may be that you are just a couple/few days out. Just a matter of days can make a huge impact on what you can see.

There's my story. I know you said you didn't have even 1 period before falling pregnant again but I have also read that often that doesn't have an impact on a healthy baby.

I hope that everything is fine and they can detect a healthy baby on Tuesday! X
