Will sex harm my baby? 37 weeks

Right so stupid question maybe but I had a sweep yesterday at 37+5 and the consultant said only a TINY part of my cervix is open but she touched the top of baby's head? so surely sex will make my partner touch the top of my baby's head as his penis is a lot longer than the woman's fingers?!? I may sound like an idiot but I'm just abit paranoid that's all 🤦🏻‍♀️

simple answer no.

Otherwise they wouldn't recommend it for inducement

Enjoy. and good luck for the birth

It’s fine. It may even help you go into labour as it can soften the cervix (presuming that’s what you’re aiming for as you’ve had a sweep). It’s only a no go if your waters have gone due to the risk of infection.

If your waters haven't broken then your baby still has the membrane around it intact - nothing would actually be touching it so it's fine.

bowgumdrop2018 · 29/06/2018 15:45

Yeah I'm aiming for that as they are talking induction as I'm having a lot of reduced movements ect but baby is showing perfectly healthy on there so if my body can do this naturally I'll be more than happy and consultant gave the go ahead but was just rather concerned that's all as haven't done it during pregnancy for multiple reasons , so the question is how do you successfully have sex so far along! and it be comfortable and no like something out of a comedy 🤦🏻‍♀️ we tried the other night but my bump just made it so complicated 😂

You would have to be in labour before there could be any chance of your cervix being dilated enough to admit a penis.

Jozxyqk · 29/06/2018 16:48

No it's safe until you've passed the waters. It's a completely normal way of trying to get labour to start.

Mousefunky · 29/06/2018 17:59

You can insert fingers into a cervix because they bend, penises generally don’t Grin. In other words, his penis won’t insert into your cervix so you are absolutely fine. As PP’s have said, until your waters break it is safe.

Tmi...try laying on your side with a pillow under your bump.

Your partner can then insert from behind..
