My mrs claims she wants a baby we are nearing 40, she already has a child of 18, what i don't understand is day after sexual intercourse she downs at least 2 bottles of wine a week and smokes now maybe i'm being thick but doesn't alcohol kill sperm ? and because she has had a child she seems to keep blaming me saying theres something wrong with me, she did have a coil in which has since she claims been removed but i'm not so sure.

Yes you are being thick. Her drinking wine and smoking does not kill sperm, it might if you did it.

Whilst stopping drinking and smoking will likely help her fertility and health long term it probably won’t stop her conceiving.

You didn’t ask for an opinion but your relationship doesn’t sound like one based on trust and it doesn’t sound as though you want a baby so perhaps it might be a good idea to work through those things before a child is conceived?
