Just looking for a bit of advice and info about what happens next. I have thankfully gotten my bfp after ivf abroad and am still in shock. I've had blood test to confirm in private clinic and will be having a scan in two weeks at same clinic. I am hesitant to contact midwife until I've had scan, I think because I just can't believe it's actually worked! What happens- do I just contact midwife and she makes first appointment, is it ok to wait till after my first scan at 7 weeks? I had my older child in another country so not used to the system here, thank you all

For a non-ivf pregnancy, in most places you contact the local midwife team when you find out and they take it from there, organising appointments etc. I don't see why it would be any different for you. But no, I don't think there is any harm in waiting until after your first scan if that would make you feel more comfortable.

Congratulations!!!

Thanks for that, I'm just a bit in shock and don't think I'll believe it till I see scan so will contact midwife then, thank you

Congratulations!! I also got a bfp after ivf a month ago and feel the same disbelief re: everything. I waited until after the scan at my clinic, which really reasured me. I also booked a 8 week scan and a harmony test privately in addition to the nhs scans - ivf journey has made me super paranoid!

Oh congratulations! Have you had your scan yet? I think it's just the long process of waiting in ivf that makes us paranoid- knowing at any stage things can go wrong. Waiting to see how many eggs, waiting to see if they fertilise, grow, survive, transfer!!!!! I'm trying to be super positive- got my bfp 1 week before OTD and my bhcg blood was really high so hoping and praying all will be well

I wouldn’t wait. We delayed with my second because it looked like I might miscarry. I didn’t so booked into see the midwife. Took a couple of weeks to get an appointment.

Then she had to put me in for my 12 week scan.

Which was done at something like 14+4 which was very very nearly too late for all the tests etc.

Plus - I was really starting to show by then so it was hard to hide it!

My ivf clinic advised o have the scan with them (3 weeks after otd) and the. Book with midwife.

The booking appointment with the midwife is just going through your history which ivf clinic know anyway so as long as you don't have any other health problems that's absolutely fine.

I also have underactive thyroid so saw my gp when I got my bfp. Who had no idea about dates and was like "you're only two weeks pregnant" because of when ivf happened - had to educate them that I was 4 weeks as ivf is dated differently!!

I've also booked for. Private 10 week scan as paranoid. £70 is nothing against the £17000 I've spent so far on ivf!
