Sorry to start another thread today!

In the middle of brushing teeth this morning my preschooler asked 'are we having a baby?'. No previous discussion of babies or wanting siblings, totally out of the blue question! Not ready to tell DC yet I just asked why they had asked, and they said they didn't know. So I gave DC a kiss and got on with teeth brushing. Has anyone else's young kids done similar? Do they know somehow or is it just something they question at that age?

I don't know!

Are any of their friends/any other kids they know going to have a sibling? They may have got the idea from somewhere else, and just be asking if it's happening to them too.

For about a year from 3.5 my son was asking if we could have another baby "because I really like my little brother so I'd like another one" or some other equally cute reason. He was ridiculously excited when we told him we were actually going to have another one.

Very common.
When my eldest daughter was three she told her nursery teacher that I was pregnant and having a girl. She was to be called Rosie, just like Alfie's little sister in the Shirley Hughes books. I was and did have a girl....but didn't call her Rosie.
A lot of her peers had pregnant Mums so it wasn't at all surprising.

that is a very good point! Various of her preschool friends do have baby siblings, as I get to see at collection time. It was just such a random time to bring it up!

When I was pregnant DD would tell anyone she saw that mummy had a baby in her tummy so it wouldn't surprise me if they've just picked it up from another kid.
