I work in a school and we’e off for a school trip to a tropical centre for animals.
It’s one of the hottest days of the year and obviously there will be increased humidity inside for the animals. I’ve read some reviews and people say it’s unbearable even without outdoor heat.
Should I be worried about this?
I know we’re not allowed to use saunas or anything similar. Surely my core temperature will rise massively.
Do I tell the other staff I can’t go into that section? I’ve been allocated a group which I’m in charge of.
I’m more concerned about my unborn child.

Baby will be fine. But you might pass out. Biggest issue is that pregnant women are unable to regulate their temperature as well as none pregnant ones so are more prone to heat stroke and fainting.

@Wellthisunexpected God I hope not! If I’m going to faint, I’m not going in!

Just take a big bottle of water with you and ask to leave the area if you start to feel rubbish. Maybe prep the teacher beforehand (assuming you're a TA?) as he/she might be able to come up with a plan to split your group between two other adults if necessary. If you are the teacher....delegate! 😁

Oh and make sure you top your blood sugar up. Don't go in feeling hungry.

TheGrumpySquirrel · 27/06/2018 22:02

How many weeks are you OP? I wouldn't go in first or third trimester.
There are real risks to baby if you overheat in first trimester (neural tube defects).

CathyandHeathcliff · 27/06/2018 22:54

@TheGrumpySquirrel I’m 24 weeks on Saturday.

I’m sure you’ll be fine, women have babies in hot countries every day Hmm

TheGrumpySquirrel · 28/06/2018 06:01

You'll be fine. Take a bottle of iced water x

24 weeks- you'll be fine. For some reason I thought you must be later on in pregnancy, with a huge bump.
