When will I hear from midwife? I want my 12 week scan booked

Yes I know I am being impatient Grin

I’ve got a private scan booked at 8 weeks already

I was told by my doctors to contact midwife at 6 weeks. I was told someone would ring me back as the assigned midwife for my practice is off. A week later and I’ve not heard anything and I have rang them again.

Is this normal?

yes where I am th3y ask that you are at least 8 weeks pregnant when you have your first appointment so I would say normal. Are you 8 weeks now ? you could always ring to chase up but o would say pretty normal

I saw my midwife at 10 weeks. The first appointment is just to go through medical history, symptoms, diet and exercise, they then book you in for your scan.

No need to rush to have the appointment early.

They usually book you in from 8 weeks onwards, then you get a scan appointment from your hospital.

It varies so much from place to place. For example, where I live you have to see both GP and midwife. Here GP refers you for the 12 week scan and does a kind of mini booking appointment. You see midwife at approximately 9 weeks for full booking appointment.
I wouldn't panic at this point if you aren't very far along yet, but the midwife should be ringing you back to book your first appointment, even if it ends up being in a few weeks time.

Thanks all.

Yeah I’m only 7 weeks so I’ll wait and see. It’s only because my dr said about 6 weeks.

Just worried about waiting times for ultrasounds. I’m in Gloucestershire

Why have you got a scan booked for 8 weeks? You wont see anything really and sometimes the heartbeat is really hard to pick up on.

Most midwife appointments are between 10-12 weeks and as pp said its just an informal appt. Generally there isnt much of a waiting time for pregnancy ultrasounds and its not always done exactly 12 weeks so if its a bit late dont worry too much

I had a midwife appointment at 10 weeks and my 12 week scan was done at 13. My 16 week midwife appointment was the right week, and my 20 week scan will be at 21 weeks, so I think they're pretty good at keeping to schedule!

Celebelly · 27/06/2018 16:23

I got my appointment for my first scan through about two days after my first Midwife appointment, so it might not necessarily take long to arrange the scan.

I saw my Midwife at six and a half weeks for the first time and will see her again at 10 weeks, but the first appointment could have been done much later.

CarbonatedBeverageFiend · 27/06/2018 16:27

Oh I just booked it for peace of mind although I know I won’t by be out of the danger zone.

I was just worried that I’d get to the 12 week mark and there’s be nothing there :(

You'll see a heartbeat for sure if your dates are right. I saw one at 6+3.

Icklepickle101 · 27/06/2018 16:30

I had my midwife appointment at 10 weeks and then was told to call the hospital the next day once my notes had been uploaded to book my scan. Got the appointment to see the midwife in the post around 7-8 weeks

Icklepickle101 · 27/06/2018 16:32

Oh and they had loss of appointments for me to choose from for my scan. The first day I was allowed to choose was 12+1 and the last date she offered was 13+6 so there’s quite a big window to do it Smile
