Just found out I am pregnant ( unplanned) but last week we were on holiday and i drank about 3 glasses of wine each night. Have I damaged the baby?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

no

HenriettaHippo · 24/05/2007 13:14

tulip, don't worry. This happens to loads of people. The dangers with drinking and pregnancy are mainly associated with regular heavy drinking.

congratulations!

wurlywurly · 24/05/2007 13:15

will be fine,a had couple of heavy nights out before i realised I was pregnant with ds2

Kif · 24/05/2007 13:15

happens to lots of us - I discovered my first pregnancy after some shocking 'hangovers' turned out to be morning sickness.

tulip27 · 24/05/2007 13:15

I'm worried as is this the time cell division starts?

No, don't beat yourself up.

Most people do this, it seems veryone has a bender week/weekend just before they find out they are pregnant and then kick themselves when they find out!
I was on my honeymoon in Amsterdam and realised I was pregnant on the last day. I had spent the previous week stoned off my tits, DD is fine.

I wouldn't recommend doing it again though

And Congratulations!!!

Don't worry, you wouldn't believe how many women this has happened to and they all have perfectly healthy babies. x

fryalot · 24/05/2007 13:16

sorry, didn't have time to answer properly. Babies get damaged by long-term, heavy drinking. A few glasses a night in the very early stages is not going to do any harm at all.

I reckon probably 80% of women have drank more than they would have in the very early stages, ie: before they found out, and their babies are all fine.

You'll be fine.

I had a big celebratory night out (got my PhD ) followed by a boozy holiday with friends and found I was about 5 weeks pg when I got back... Ds absolutely fine.

Piffle · 24/05/2007 13:17

Nope. I only found out I was pregnant at 9 wks with ds and spent 3-4 nights a week quite seriously boozing (unplanned contraceptive failure)
My ds is now 13 and is a little scatterbrained but a highly intelligent friendly boy

tulip27 · 24/05/2007 13:18

Not quite congratulations, dh doesn't think we can cope with another as have ds 2 and dd 1 year, he thinks that if the drinking has damaged the baby then I would be selfish to have it as it would effect us all, especially the children we already have.

I think this happens to alot of people. Try not to worry.

gingerone · 24/05/2007 13:22

Tulip, you and the baby will be fine. Dont worry about it. I drank a lot before I found out at 8 weeks, we are talking tequila, vodka, big girls nights out and we were all fine!

juicychops · 24/05/2007 14:19

i didn't find out i was pregnant until i was about 10 weeks. I had just been on holiday and drank every night, and before the holiday i got legless at a party and the week before that on a night out with a friend. no damage done

and to defend my bad drinking habits at the time, i did stop all drinking after i found out i was pregnant
