Is the heartrate thing foolproof??

Just had my 16 week check and baby's heartrate is 118-120bmp. If I remember correctly it should be a boy, but I could be wrong, does it actually work??

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

No it's absolutely not foolproof!

Having said that, my babies' heartrates were always 140-160, and they were both girls.

sparklygothkat · 24/05/2007 12:42

I am just wondering if people would tell me the heartrate of their babies and the sex (if you can rememeber )

My baby's heart rate was 159bpm on Tuesday and about 170bpm the week before (but i was incredibly stressed). Does that mean i'm carrying a girl????

jinxed · 24/05/2007 12:43

My 2 DD's heart-rates were usually between 130 and 150bpm

twoplusone · 24/05/2007 12:43

with dd her hb was 150-160
with ds his was 135-140
this time another boy his is generally 135-140 (lothough on the moniter the other day was 110-140)

belgo · 24/05/2007 12:44

RGPargy - why the sad face? girls are great!

Rubyslippers · 24/05/2007 12:45

no it isn't foolproof!
the rate slows and speeds up depending on if the baby is sleeping or you have just eaten a huge sugary snack and baby is bouncing around
Think it is all an old wives tale - i had loads of tests and the heart rate change considerably from 130 - 160 or more

IdrisTheDragon · 24/05/2007 12:46

DS had a fast heartrate.

DD had a slow heartrate.

Midwife (on the day before DD was born) said, on having done her heartrate "it will be nice for you having two boys won't it?" .

In my case, it's definitely not foolproof.

sparklygothkat · 24/05/2007 12:47

lol I am desperate to find out the sex, but DH doesn't, and as apparently I can't keep a secret I have been banned from finding out.. hehe

No.

Both my boys had "girl" heartrates.

DaisyMOO · 24/05/2007 12:54

It's rubbish, a complete old wive's tale.

Chugnuts · 24/05/2007 13:06

My 3 were all around 140-150. I had 2 boys and 1 girl.

RGPargy · 24/05/2007 13:09

Oh thank God for that!!! I did drink a bottle of lucozade before i went into the scan so maybe that's why the heartbeat was a little fast (although not as fast as last week!).

Belgo - I want another boy and so does my DP but when i go for my 22 week scan, i will find out the sex but will have to keep it secret from DP as he doesn't want to know!! I need to find out because i need to prepare mentally if i'm having a girl, IYSWIM

Jossiejump · 24/05/2007 21:06

DS1 HB was always 140
DS2 HB was always 160!

bumperlicious · 25/05/2007 12:28

My midwife says heart rates vary up and down so not fool proof.
