I'm 36 weeks on tuesday. Managed to only gain a couple of pounds through this whole pregnancy, infact i even lost some. I have just gone and got on the scales and it says i am 8lb heavier than i was 3 weeks ago. I do have swollen ankles and feet so could it be fluid retention? Noticed i am not weeing as much as i was today although it is very hot and i am drinking a lot. Anyone else?

It’s absolutelt fluid retention.

I put on a stone in the last month alone and it was all fluid.
I would wake up every morning and my hands would look as though someone had inflated a marigold.

The bonus is, you lose the ‘weight’ very quickly! You just piddle it out.

@JustVent i find I'm not peeing as much though. I am drinking a lot. I'm hoping its just water. Got enough weight to lose once shes here lol x

Yes that’s why you have water rentention, your body is storing it in your ankles and other places!

But once the baby is born you will lose it very quickly and piddle it all out.

Ah right. I hope so lol. I can barley move my toes my foots that swollen. If i drink more will it flush it out abit or make me retain more? X

Drinking more should help flush it out.

SamanthaH92 · 25/06/2018 08:54

@tinyterror1 i hope so. I am drinking like a fish trying to stay hydrated in this weather. I hope it is just water retention. Feet and ankles still swollen this morning x

That said, sudden swelling and reduced urination can be symptoms of pre-eclampsia. Are you having any headaches, abdominal pains or nausea? When was your last blood pressure check? If you still aren't weeing properly today it might be worth calling your midwife or triage for advice.

stellavisionandunderstanding · 25/06/2018 09:28

Have you had your thyroid checked? The same happened to me and it was because of that. Can start at any moment during pregnancy.

SamanthaH92 · 25/06/2018 09:33

@tinyterror1 i had my blood pressure checked friday at the doctors. It was a bit higher than normal but she was not concerened. She checked my urine no proteins in it or anything. She rang PAU and they said they werent concerned and to go back if stomach pains and all over swelling. X

SamanthaH92 · 25/06/2018 09:34

@stellavisionandunderstanding no i haven't had that checked x

@SamanthaH92 good to know! Then hopefully it will pass. There was someone in my pregnancy yoga class who had swollen hands, face and feet for the last 6 weeks of her pregnancy. Nothing wrong but nothing she could do about it either apparently. Really hope it passes for you.

SamanthaH92 · 25/06/2018 10:12

Thank you, i do too. Can't even get my shoes on this morning so having to wear DPs lol. I was pregnant same time with DD1 and never had this then x
