People say it's too soon to have a bump...

Sorry to be that cliche 'bump or bloat' but I'm asking more in depth, can people have bumps sooner? And does it depend on your body, uterus and number of pregnancies?? I swear, it's the beginnings of bump... it's hard and I have had to buy maternity leggings as if I wear normal clothes I get cramps. Also, stays when I lay down. But people say it's 'too soon' and 'it's just bloat'...

So I'll post three pictures, the first (dark blue top) is me with my first pregnancy at 16 weeks.

The second (leggings) is me now at 10 weeks with my second. (Yes I know it's probably too early....)

And the third is a picture of me a month or so back next to the 10 week picture (for reference)

Thanks in advance, please no rude or blunt comments!! X

I had a bump at 6 weeks with DD! Sooner with DS2 (although he was conceived when DD was 9 weeks so that may be why).

I think it just depends really. I think you look great by the way Smile

Thank you! I posted on the Ovia Pregnancy app but there's a few rude mumma's on there (maybe hormones, or maybe it's my hormones getting upset easy!) and they all say it's far too early! I was huge with my first though so I feel this time around I may actually have a bump?

People at work have started questioning it because of it so just be noticeable!

Thank you for the compliment! I could've cried today going in shops trying to find clothes! The leggings I wore were making me feel sick they were so uncomfortable and nothing I tried on would fit 😔 x

Oh how rude those other women sound! There’s no rhyme or reason to our bumps at all. With DS1 I was fairly neat, with DD I was big everywhere and with DS2 I looked like I’d eaten a semi detached house by 18 weeks (which is when I found out I was pregnant Blush)

I’m gutted that people have been so nasty, you honestly do look great! Have you checked Next online for maternity clothes? They’ve got some lovely bits in.

YorkieDorkie · 23/06/2018 20:18

No bump for me until 26 and 27 weeks. Everyone is different! I was told I'd show much quicker with DC2 - he was the 27 weeks!!

BabyAlexander · 23/06/2018 20:20

I had a huge bump at 10 weeks, then it bizarrely disappeared and reappeared around 24 weeks. The early day bloat. I had to wear a tight bridesmaid dress I'd been fitted into weeks before at 10 weeks 😳

mum2H13 · 23/06/2018 20:21

@SoddingUnicorns no I will have a look tho! I hoped I'd be smaller this time around as I was so uncomfortable with my first!! Thank you!

@YorkieDorkie oh really? My mum said she showed later with me than my older sister! Strange!!

At 10 weeks it'll be tucked in your pelvis. So this is bloating. About 14 weeks ish it is out of the pelvis but obviously that depends on lots of factors.

mum2H13 · 23/06/2018 20:21

@BabyAlexander oh bless you!! I'm trying to keep this a secret for another 2 weeks but it's becoming hard 😂 between throwing up all the time and then looking pregnant already 😩😂

I got some nice skinny jeans and shorts from them no I didn’t wear them even after I wasn’t pregnant for comfort. Not me and also a couple of nice tshirts which were long enough!

Hadalifeonce · 23/06/2018 20:25

I was showing a 2 weeks, we were hoping not to tell anyone until after the first scan! Some hope, when I was 6 weeks I was talking to another pregnant lady, when I said 6 weeks, she assumed I had 6 weeks to go!!!

Wolfiefan · 23/06/2018 20:26

At two weeks? Weren't you just ovulating then? Or do you mean two weeks after your period was due? Confused

Potplant · 23/06/2018 20:27

I was at 10 weeks. My bump was twins. Grin

elf1985 · 23/06/2018 20:27

At 9 weeks I was in maternity wear with my second. Didn't even need to tell anyone

FirstTimeBumps · 23/06/2018 20:34

I'm so glad you've posted this! I have my 12 week scan on Tuesday (will be 12+1) and I already have a ridiculous bump, so much so that a work colleague decided it was appropriate to pat me on the stomach the other day and say "whats this" (I was not impressed). Bought a size up in jeans about two weeks ago convincing myself it was far too early to buy maternity clothes but was talked into it. I've resorted to half just shrugging and half trying to cover my stomach with my coat carried round over my arm. People keep saying twins (theres a set on my mums side, her cousin however my darling OH only today decided to mention there were twins on both his mum and dads side).

mum2H13 · 23/06/2018 20:37

@FirstTimeBumps oh bless you! Yes I'm not impressed with people asking I'm like 'god am I fat!?' But I've come to terms with the maternity wear, so comfy!! I've had 2 scans and only one baby in there (unless the other is amazing at hide and seek!!) but I'm convinced it's a bump!!

I'm 7 weeks with my second and I'm extremely bloated and can no longer do up my jeans. I think it's possible to show early particularly on subsequent pregnancies

Liz3891 · 23/06/2018 21:43

I'm 20 weeks and starting to tell people who are looking shocked so I assume I'm not showing. Obviously when I examine in the mirror I can see signs, but not in clothing. I have lots of bloat, but then again I always have looked semi-pregnant lol.

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 23/06/2018 22:06

I’ll be six weeks tomorrow.. I have quite a large ‘bump’ but yeah, it’s bloat. As a pp said, your uterus is still tucked in your pelvis, so regardless of what it looks like... it really is just bloat.

Havetothink · 23/06/2018 22:48

I had a bump at 10 weeks last time and this time, it was not bloat, different bodies show differently, I unfortunately grow as if I'm having twins every time.

DaisyMaisieMe · 23/06/2018 23:01

I’m 14 weeks with my 1st and have been bloated since week 5 but have definitely had a proper baby bump for the last week or so. I’m self conscious of people thinking I’m showing too soon but I guess every woman is different!

JustVent · 24/06/2018 09:00

I think most people get bloated at that stage.
Mines only just startinf to go down at 14 weeks, a lovely rock solid baby bump is starting to make its way up!

And yes to the pp who said the baby is too far down in your pelvis for that to be baby bump.
But hey, the way I looked at it when I appeared 4 months pregnant when I was only 12 weeks, was that I am pregnant so the bump may not be baby yet but it’s not exactly lying either!!

Longtalljosie · 24/06/2018 09:04

I had a very sold, small bump both times by 10 weeks. Ridiculously, the first time round, I was influenced by a MN thread about how ridiculous people were who bought maternity clothes early on, so struggled on in clothes which no longer fit me. Second time round I was pulling the maternity jeans out of the loft to wash by 10 weeks! I also bought a wrap dress (a proper one, not imitation) which was really helpful for work (although my colleagues did guess!)

Stephisaur · 24/06/2018 11:35

It’s probably just bloat, but so what? Rock that bump!!

I did hear that you show earlier in your next pregnancies, but I can’t comment on the accuracy of that as this is my first :)

Grimbles · 24/06/2018 11:39

I'm 7 weeks and can't wear jeans or trousers without feeling really uncomfortable. Luckily the weather is allowing me to wear leggings and a loose dress/tunic top Grin

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 24/06/2018 12:17

I’d wear maternity clothes now at 6 weeks to accommodate my bloat if I didn’t feel I was jinxing myself!

Fortunately I have my own office at work, so I can undo my trousers with no witnesses!!
