I'm 38+3, contractions on and off all day yesterday but just tried to ignore them. By evening were 2-3.5 mins apart and lasting 40-60 seconds, called triage who said to wait until the pain was worse, this went on for a good few hours.
We went to bed hoping I'd be waking DP up in the night, but have woken up this morning and they've stopped Envy ... gutted...
hoping this means it's the start of something though!! 🤞🤞 anyone else had similar happen?

Aquarius1 · 06/07/2018 07:27

Congratulations campari! And lightning and spangle and everyone else who’s had their wee’uns! Hope you’re all doing well :)

star if it’s any consolation I started having contractions too the other night, but went to sleep and they’d disappeared by the morning. Mine were most likely due to having had my baby turned earlier that day (it had been breech)- it can cause contractions apparently. I’m 39 weeks so really hoping it won’t be too much longer....

0310Star · 06/07/2018 07:46

@Aquarius1 isn't it so frustrating? This is the 4th time this has happened in the last 3 weeks, but was very inconsistent before yesterday so hoping it's a sign! 🤞although not much happening today... hopefully we both get to meet our babies in the next few weeks

Eggoispreggo · 06/07/2018 15:58

Hi all! Sorry for the very long delay lol, Sunday night did end up going to the MLU at 2am (I guess Monday morning really) awful contractions in my back. Was 4cm dilated with 'waters bulging' and had a lovely aromatherapy massage from a midwife and all that nice relaxing stuff and my contractions basically stopped!!! Stayed til 10am, went back home, waters broke at 1pm, mega contractions an hour or so later that we're the real deal in that they lasted a lot longer.
Razzed back to MLU got in a birth pool at around half 3 Monday afternoon, baby girl born at half 7 that evening!!!
We've been in hospital since then and only just got home today as she had a suspected infection so all sorts of antibiotics etc for days. But now we're home!!
I hope everyone else is doing well with babies and without yet. Can recommend having a midwife feed you icepop lollies one after the other, I must have had about 11, from the edge of the pool during breaks in contractions 😂

Aquarius1 · 06/07/2018 21:35

Oh @eggoispreggo that’s great news about your baby arriving! but so sorry you had the worry of a suspected infection - glad you’re home now and I hope you’re all settling in well. Great tip about the ice lollies- I’ll try and remember that - did they just happen to have a freezer full of them in the hospital or did you bring some in??

Aquarius1 · 06/07/2018 21:38

@0310star yep here’s hoping indeed 🤞

Eggoispreggo · 06/07/2018 23:18

@Aquarius1 they had them in the freezer there at the midwife led unit., they were like those mr freeze ones and I don't know if it's just for this heatwave or a full time thing. They kept telling me to eat something between contractions as I hadn't eaten or slept, but there was no way I could eat actual food so out came the lollies 😂
We're settling in ok thanks, wishing you so much luck!!!

Aquarius1 · 07/07/2018 17:31

Thank you @eggoispreggo :)

@0310star any update today? I’ve had tons of Braxton Hicks today but not regular or painful enough to be the real deal - so frustrating!! Planning on a warm bath later and lots of walking tomorrow if nothing occurring...

Becbobs · 07/07/2018 17:51

Congratulations to all - I'm very jealous! We've no signs here, but to make life fun my husband has gone down with a virus 5 days before my due date so I've asked my mum to come the 200 miles down now to help out. I've pretty much guaranteed that this baby will be late...Confused

Aquarius1 · 07/07/2018 19:34

Oh poor you @Becbobs ! Good that your mum can’t come down despite being so far away. My husband injured his foot two weeks ago (when I was 38 wks) and I was v unsympathetic 🙄. Hope yours gets well soon & it’s not too serious🤞

0310Star · 07/07/2018 19:39

@Aquarius1 had them again this morning, wore off completely until about 6.30pm... I'm hoping the fact they wore off means they are preparing for the main event 😂 although a little disheartening, it was nice to have a bit of a break from them as my stomach was so achey from contracting so much the last 2 days!
Hopefully your Braxton Hicks turn into contractions, lots of walking is a good idea! I went for a walk this morning and it did actually help me feel a bit more comfortable too weirdly enough!

Aquarius1 · 10/07/2018 17:56

Hi all, well our little one arrived yesterday morning after about 16 hours of contractions ; one day over her due date - so all those early labour pains were building up to something after all.

@Becbobs and @0310star - and everyone else - how are things? Any progress?

Becbobs · 10/07/2018 18:13

@Aquarius1 congratulations! Nothing here, apart from feeling rough but I honestly don't know if that's just the heat! I'm still keeping my fingers crossed and my due date isn't until Thursday, but I'm resigning myself to them turning up the day my mum has to go home Wink I really hope I'm wrong, but at least hubby is feeling better and he should be allowed in the room when it does finally happen now.

0310Star · 10/07/2018 22:59

@Aquarius1 congratulations!! What wonderful news!
I had a sweep about 7pm this eve so HOPING it starts them off properly! They said I'm about 1cm so at least the stop/start has been doing something I guess!

Flatwhite32 · 11/07/2018 07:03

Congratulations @Aquarius1!
@0310Star what's the sweep like? I'm 38 +2 and looking at the possibility of one if I go overdue. Have read some stories online (I know, I need to stay off google!) that sound, erm, not very nice!

Aquarius1 · 11/07/2018 07:34

Thank you ladies ☺️
@becbobs good to hear your other half is doing better - must be a relief. I felt rough in the days leading up to delivery - fatigued and weepy -so hoping it’s a good sign for you to

@0310Star hope things are progressing for you... 🤞

@Flatwhite32 (your name is making me crave coffee!!) I had a sweep to help my contractions progress, and delivered about 7 hrs later- it was a bit uncomfortable but I was already 4cm so i think that made it less uncomfortable. I had a show shortly after and then my waters went a few hrs after that. I think if you’re as impatient & uncomfortable as I was by 40 weeks it’ll be a relief to have it. Star might be better placed to tell you how it felt (although hopefully she’s too busy being in labour to reply....)

Becbobs · 11/07/2018 08:08

@Aquarius1 yes, and I've had an iffy stomach for three days so I'm really hoping it means something, but I had no warning with my previous labour until my waters broke at 5am! Hmm

0310Star · 11/07/2018 08:38

The sweep was absolutely fine! I've had a few procedures in the past (colposcopy, Lletz etc) and compared to those it was a walk in the park! I'd say it's not as bad as a smear if that's any help, just stay relaxed and don't tense and it's fine.
No signs just yet Envy lots of pressure 'down there' though so hoping that's a sign! If nothing has happened by tomorrow then I'm back at midwife for sweep #2!

Summer1986 · 13/07/2018 00:23

Congratulations to those who have had their babies and hope everyone else doesn't need to wait too much longer!
My daughter was born on Saturday night, we are still in hospital with infection but hopefully home tomorrow. My waters broke during my 2nd sweep at 4pm on Fri and she was born 2300 Saturday.

Aquarius1 · 13/07/2018 01:43

Congratulations @Summer1986 ! Sorry to hear you’re still in hospital- is the infection clearing up? Do you have a room to yourself? Hope you’re getting some rest & recovering well-& enjoying newborn cuddles in the meantime x

Becbobs · 13/07/2018 08:59

Congratulations @Summer1986! I hope the infection clears soon x
I had a sweep yesterday morning and was told my cervix is very low - the felt the waters and nearly accidentally popped them cos she didn't expect it - and that I was about 2cm dilated. I've been on my ball and walking as advised and nothing yet! Hmm

0310Star · 13/07/2018 11:02

Congratulations @Summer1986 hope you're home soon and enjoying those newborn cuddles!! X

Flatwhite32 · 13/07/2018 11:11

Congratulations @Summer1986! Lovely news. I'm 38+4 and feeling really tired. I'm guessing it's normal to feel like this towards the end?!

Managed to hand express 1ml of colostrum this morning though, so that's now in the freezer!

Summer1986 · 14/07/2018 05:17

Thanks ladies! @Bec fingers crossed not long!!

@Flatwhite I'd compare my tiredness in those last days to the exhaustion of the first trimester!!

@Aquarius no I was in a bay of 4 beds. I was very well cared for but being in had an impact on breast feeding for me personally. Desperate to make it work though so not giving up.
I felt very uncomfortable with my boobs out and even behind the curtains our time trying to establish feeding was disturbed by one or the other of us needing our antibiotics drip or a Dr review etc. We are now home and it's felt overwhelming but it's amazing and so worth it

Aquarius1 · 15/07/2018 17:24

Oh @Summer1986 that must have been tough - I know the feeling; my midwife told me to air my nipples as they’re cracked & bleeding from feeding my newborn without knowing she had tongue tie (ouch! getting it snipped tomorrow...), & people kept ringing the door / popping in uninvited so it was difficult to walk round topless in my own home. I just wanted to be left alone with my boobs & my baby!! I hope you’re finding it easier now you’re at home & that your midwife is helping x
