Hypnobirthing CDs - worth it or should I see a hypnotherapist?

Is it worth using a hypnotherapy cd or do I really need to go and see a therapist a few times? Has anyone had good results from CDs alone? Don't really feel able to fork out for seesions with a therapist, would much rather get the £50 cd set but only if it's going to work!

I don't know how effective this is yet as baby is due in 2 weeks but I got the effective Birth Preparation CD which they sell in the NCT after another mumsnetter recommended it (got it secondhand off ebay)and even if it all goes out the window when I'm in labour so far it has been worth it just to take time out and practise breathing excersises and to relax. It really does send me into a lovely state of relaxation and has put me in amore positive position about my ability to manage this birth which can only be a good thing.

However I think I would be wary forking out £50 for the whole set -I find it quite hard to squeeze in just doing this one so maybe try one before you commit to the whole lot as it might not be for you. Haven't tried classes I'm afraid.

Oh -it was the hospital or birth centre one. Usually about £17 but got it for less than a tenner.

I did pay full whack for the Natal Hypno set. Haven't listened religiously, but definitely feel the benefit of taking time out to relax. I think I sleep better on the days I listen to it.

Almost 34 weeks now - so can't comment on the main event, but I'm sure it hasn't done any harm.

Sorry I don't have any personal experience on the actual hypnotherapy front. If I'd had a major phobia/fear issue I think I would have gone down this route to ensure the support was really tailored for me.

Good luck!
