Why doesn’t my baby party anymore? Very last stages of pregnancy

Hello my baby used to sleep for a while then wake up and it felt like he was partying in there, this was always the case. But since Tuesdays he hasn’t he’s been waking up and having a few moves then sleeping a lot longer so I seen my midwife and she wasn’t concerned but her helper was....her helper who i gusss is the student said I should go to MAU for a trace, but my midwife said no movements do change in the end as he’s not got much room left.
They checked his heart rate which was good. The student measured my tummy and was shocked it had it hadn’t grown since my last app so the midwife measured and said it had grown 2cm so was fine.
So my movements have changed from sleeping while I move around to waking up when I sit down and moving non stop for 20 mins, odd kicks when I move also so let’s say 200 moves per day
To now he sleeps when I move and when I sit down he has maybe 5 little moves in an hour while I’m still.... I’m ready to ring MAU but feel because my midwife wrote in my notes about this that I won’t even be seen

Ring MAU. Don’t worry about your midwife. Ring them

Ring. If I’m doubt about movement always ring triage / labour ward they will want to see you to check things over.

Always ring, they will see you and put you in a ctg to check baby's movements, they can tell so much more from a ctg than hut listening to the heartbeat. Please do this.

I can't believe your midwife told you that babies movements slow down toward the end of pregnancy due to not having much room. That is categorically untrue!! PLEASE go to MAU... any change in movement should ALWAYS be investigated. It won't take long to do a trace and get some reassurance, and the way I see it, it is always better to be safe than sorry.

For what it's worth, I am currently 1 week overdue. My baby definitely doesn't have much room left, but his pattern of movement is still consistent with what it has been throughout my pregnancy!

Babies movements and regular patterns DO NOT SLOW DOWN OR STOP. There is no such thing as them running out of room. As they grow the pattern will change when the space grows a little tight but your baby should still have the same routine. Please do not listen to anyone that says he has ran out of room and ring your MAU immediately. You wouldn't leave someone unconscious on a street because You've felt a pulse would you? Same for babies movement you need to be put on the ctg!

I agree, see MAU. You have nothing to lose by being checked over.

Definitely ring, they'll want to see you. I went into triage a couple of times as I was worried about movement. I worried about them thinking I was being over anxious but they were friendly and understanding and told me I should always get any change in movement checked!

@Emz2019 try not to panic, a trace will put your mind at rest. How many weeks are you? Is the head engaged? That can make a bump measure different!!

I'm almost 37 weeks and had this start a few weeks ago, went to triage twice to be monitored in 3 days and they couldn't find a problem so they sent me for a scan just to be on the safe side.
In my case it seems my baby that has never really had much of a pattern now does and because she's pretty crammed up the movements just feel a bit different, but they told me if I have any concerns I am to go back.
Call them, chances are everything will be fine but it's better than sitting at home worrying!

Definitely call MAU. It's an absolute myth that movements slow at the end. They do not. Your baby should be following their usual pattern of movements, it slide like your baby is not.

MAU will not care two hoots what your midwife has written in your notes. What they will care about is that you and your baby are well and the first sign that baby could be unwell is a reduction in movements.

So forget what your midwife (who is incorrect and needs updating, and I say this as a midwife myself) has said and call MAU now, please!
If they check you out and everything is ok, no harm done. I'd much rather see someone every day and be able to monitor baby's wellbeing than someone sit at home worrying about movement because someone told them something untrue or they feel like they're wasting someone's time. Midwives get paid to do this, you're not wasting anyone's time.

Thank you everyone I’m going to get checked out soon, the student seamed concerned but my midwife didn’t and I was thinking maybe I should take note from the student rather than my midwife as maybe the student has newer training. I’m due next week going by my dates but today by the hospitals date so I don’t know I’m pretty much due though

Definitely go and get it checked out if you are worried (I did this and they were really understanding) but I was told that as the baby gets bigger it can feel like they are moving less because there's simply less space for them to wriggle around and kick. Wishing you the very best of luck!

I'd go by the hospital date as it's based on your earliest scan which is most accurate.
So in that instance today is your due date and you have reduced movements.
I would call ASAP and tell them you are on your way, they will be happy to help. Good luck, maybe baby is just resting before their big birthday

This was exactly what I was going to say. The baby outgrowing his/her space is such an old thing. My DDs are still young, and I was advised that it shouldn't lessen, the movements will feel different.
You are doing right by listening to the student. Although she is only learning she will know what she has been taught very recently.
I am sure your baby is absolutely fine, but go and get checked.
My lovely DR has always said to me through pregnancy and when my children are born 'If a mother is concerned then I am concerned, if ever in doubt it is not wasting our time to come and see us, we are paid to do our job and our job is to keep you and your baby healthy'

Hope all is well, op. I worry about this as my baby doesn't have a pattern but he does move and I know he's ok. If you have any doubt at all, you need to get checked.

Definitely get checked. But take your hospital bag! Reduced movements at term means induction - today. Baby is safer out than in.
