Need reassurance about tooth infection pregnant

Hi all,

I do have form during this pregnancy for being anxious but I have been doing a lot better. However I have a loose amalgam filling, my dentist said it’s best not to treat it unless it becomes infected.

Problem is now I think it IS becoming infected, it’s not very painful but feels decidedly niggly. I’m an idiot because I only saw the dentist this morning and was quite happy at the time to leave without antibiotics but now it’s feeling worse and it’ll be hard to get another apppontment without missing work. Of course I googled it and found out that a tooth infection can cause stillbirth! Now I am panicking. Does anyone have any positive stories of having a tooth infection and not losing the baby, that can help me put this in perspective? I am 26 weeks. Thanks in advance!

A tooth infection is not going to cause you to have a stillborn baby. I have had 4 WISDOM TOOTH INFECTIONS since getting pregnant and 3 UTIs. You can look up most illnesses and somewhere it'll tell you that it can lead to some complication or another. Just go to the dentist and get some pregnancy safe antibiotics. You'll be absolutely fine. Stop googling as well it doesn't help.

Haha that’s just what I needed, thanks @MissAntigua ! Good luck with your pregnancy.

Congratulations also. I suffer from an anxiety disorder so completely sympathise with you. Please try to stop worrying, you'll be so sad you didn't enjoy your pregnancy more! All the best Thanks

Ime a tooth infection isn't niggly it's fucking painful - go back when you can to put your mind at rest.

I have been unable to get an appointment before Thursday (even offering to pay privately did not help!) and now the sodding filling has started crumbling and I don’t know if the mercury is a risk to the foetus! So that’s a whole new worry! Does anyone know if this is a realistic risk?

See if you can get an emergency appointment at the dentist so you can have a temporary filling.

There is no evidence for any risk.

Thanks @BlueBug. I haven’t managed to get an emergency appointment that I can get to, I have called all the local dentists! When you google there are all sorts of horror stories about foetal mercury poisoning!! Hopefully it’ll be ok:.
