Not washing baby clothes

Did anyone else not wash baby clothes before going in hospital bag?
They are all brand new the ones I've been given have been washed
cue the hate x

I didn't. Nothing terrible happened.

I did for my first, not the others. Only stuff I washed was anything I was given 2nd hand. They’ve all survived just fine

DD1 was in SCBU for 2 weeks and we didn't have any prem-baby stuff - so DH would come into the unit via Mothercare most days with what we needed. Not a single SCBU nurse ever told me that I should be washing the things I took straight out of the packet, so I never worried about after that.

I'm also proper paranoid about buying nappies now as I keep reading that babies are allergic to certain ones! So far I've only got pampers and want to buy more while they are a good price and I have vouchers!!
I got 88 for £6 instead of £18 so hope they are ok! Lol x

Nope I didn't wash anything, it seemed like much too overwhelming a task when heavily pregnant!

I never washed anything new, just second hand stuff.
My DD is really allergic to Pampers, gave her nappy rash with bleeding spots I would buy some Lidl/Aldi nappies too! Way cheaper and IMO better.

I'm not planning on washing anything brand new because I am going to buy a variety of sized newborn clothing and return anything that doesn't fit!

I really dont want to waste money on the wrong sized newborn clothes I find the names really confusing, tiny baby, newborn, first size. No idea what will fit so buying them all and returning what we dont need.

@RedPandaMama that's such a shame, that's what I'm worried about! Just hope I can at least use the ones I have then will send him off shopping to get a few different ones if need be, have heard aldi are good!

@SPARKS17 I'm the same and they haven't given me an estimated birth weight recently so now he has three going home outfits! Tiny baby new baby and newborn I think?! Well confusing! Boots is the only place I've found say the weight for the clothes on the hangers too x

I always did, and will do again.

Most clothes are made in foreign countries with completely different rules and regs. And they are all sprayed with chemicals to give them that ‘new’ smell.

I wouldn’t want to dress my baby in something that has likely been in numerous factory locations, handled by unknown numbers of people and then covered in chemicals.

No hate for anyone or their choices, it’s just not something I’m happy doing.

Nope. Didn't bother. No problem. And DD is sensitive to some bath bubble things so it's not a case that she's got super tough skin.

I have but only because it's my first and I am excited and I wanted to, not because I seriously believe that anything bad would happen if I don't!

Never washed anything, which was great as it meant we could return/exchange stuff that was the wrong size.

apparently you should only worry about the ones you buy on hangers (that strangers have touched in shops) but those sleepsuits etc that come in packets i wouldnt bother about washing!

but personally preference really, im sure no baby has ever died over it lol

Not only did I not wash new clothes I also didn't bother with non bio for washing after wear. I hate the smell so didn't want to change brand.

A lot of other mum's hyperventilated when I let that little nugget slip at babygroup...

I wash everyone's clothes before wearing. Guidelines are to always wash all baby and small children's clothes as well as all underwear, sportswear and anything tight fitting or that you will sweat heavily in.

If they are made out if the UK they can be treated with all kinds of chemicals either to add a finish to the fabric, or to prevent damp or mould in storage or transportation, that will then be in direct contact with the skin.

Never heard of washing brand new clothes.....

My DH prefers them to be washed but he doesn't wash them himself so I take the tags off and scrunch them up a bit before I throw them in the press. He's none the wiser. Before anyone says anything he does his own washing but I do DD as I'm on maternity leave still.

I'm planning on washing all of the new clothes we had. I used to work in the fashion buying industry and each garment can be touched by tens of people, in dirty factories and then are all sprayed with chemicals to treat pests/keep them neat. They can also be on a ship in transit for 6months before they even get to the warehouse here, then on another truck into store. I'm sure it won't hurt them but I would definitely prefere to know all that craps been washed off.

How difficult is it to wash them!?! It won't even be a full load of stuff. As others have said, new clothes are sprayed with chemicals to stop them going mouldy and getting creased. Babies have been in a sterile womb for 9 months and have sensitive skin. Chances are nothing will happen, but why risk their skin breaking out just because you can't be bothered to turn on the washing machine once? I know it sounds like I'm being harsh, but I think it's the height of laziness!
