I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Ttc Oh dear. I am really sorry that you are suffering so badly and that Pregnancy Sickness Support is closed for over a week. That is too bad. I am glad you are seeing the doctor on Monday. I do feel for you, feeling so bad in this heat. Do you think you are dehdrated? How are the ketones. Are ice lollies and ice cubes no good at all? I think the stomach trouble can affect breathing patterns and of course, the lack of eating makes on shaky and weak. Do mention all these symtpoms to the doctor. I hope they can give you some combination that helps more.
Bored Great advice as ever. I do hope Ttc gets some effective meds soon.

Ttc2017 · 06/08/2018 14:13

Thanks went to doc but have to have ecg before they will allow me to increase meds or give stemetil as well as apparently they can affect your heart?! Also hospital won't take me as no ketone yet I'm sure I'm dehydrated as wee is so dark is orangey brown and feel like death reallt think fluids again will help but no chance at mo

LucindaE · 06/08/2018 14:47

TTC Oh dear. This is so weird. I never heard of that before about ecg.
I wonder if you can send someone out to get kesostix for you to test yourself as with that urine for sure you are dehydrated. They will have to take seriously a reading of 3+ ketones at A and E.

OP posts:
Ttc2017 · 06/08/2018 15:05

I got some and tested today showed zero can't believe it

Olivecake · 06/08/2018 16:14

Ttc2017 seems so odd that you can feel so dehydrated and be producing such dark urine and there are no ketones - so frustrating sometimes when you can’t keep anything down and the hospital won’t help - I had that previously and then not even a week later ended up being admitted after collapsing. I know they can’t just give out fluids to everyone who feels a bit under the weather but seems like they should be able to do more in your case before it gets even worse.

I’m a bit concerned that I’m almost 16 weeks and have no sign of a bump at all- did anyone else find theirs was slower to develop because of hyperemesis? I know some people just show later so trying not to worry about it.

Foodylicious · 06/08/2018 18:07

hotchoc have you been to mw for your next appt?
All ok? Do you need gtt?
Had my 31 week appt today.
Measuring at 33 but she does not seem concerned. I was 29 at 28 week appt.

Having to have fortnightly bloods to keep an eye on antibodies, as can back positive for a few at 28 week screen, but numbers are low at the moment so fx they stay low.

Sorry you are so ill ttc.
Did you use fmu this morning?
Definitely worth testing again tomorrow.

Is it the MAU that you have spoken to about going in for fluids?

Foodylicious · 06/08/2018 18:07

Can you ask if you can go in for an assessment?

Boredoftryingusernames · 07/08/2018 00:09

Ttc I think some people are more resistant to producing ketones than others, I never had them when urine was checked, despite feeling horrendous and being very dehydrated (same as you - hardly urinating, dizzy, dry mouth, not keeping anything much down). A few people on the thread whilst I have been on it have said similar, other people still test positive for ketones later on when they are eating and drinking much better......They are produced when you are not getting enough carbs/glucose in and have to break down fat (hence why people on Atkins type diets are aiming to get them to show it's working), so isn't just to do with dehydration which is why it's so variable I think.
I'm a vet, and well aware of signs of dehydration and wouldn't even consider testing ketones to decide if a pet needed fluids so found it really frustrating as you are (seriously considered setting myself up on a drip with stuff from work, but felt too ill to actually do it....).
Keep pushing for more drugs, I went to hospital a few times and although they wouldn't give me fluids as didn't match their ketone criteria, they were really sympathetic and did adjust my doses etc, so I would bypass the GP if they are being unhelpful. I can't see why you would need an ECG to increase your ondansetron dose either. My GP wouldn't give stemetil and ondansetron together though as the computer flagged up there was an issue with that - maybe that's why they suggested it. Really feel for you, I promise it will get better......

Yarnswift · 07/08/2018 06:06

Two more weeks to go...

May I moan? Now 37 weeks and the sickness is back with a vengeance. I feel absolutely hideous 😭 my iron tablets are giving me diarrhoea and the pelvic pain is hideous. Ive started having what seem like period cramps as well. Baby is wrecking my pelvis.

Utterly fed up and it’s still forecast for 30c most of the week.

Foodylicious · 07/08/2018 06:50

yarn
How long have you been having those symotoms?
Sounds like pre-labour...

Hotchocolate86 · 07/08/2018 08:25

Hi foody I have my midwifes appointment tomorrow when I will find out if I need to have the GTT. I hope not as although I’m feeling a bit better I’m not sure I could keep down the lucozade for the test. Are antibodies a problem? How are you feeling in general now?

I’m still on two ondansetron and one cyclizine a day and feeling queasy and exhausted but it’s a big improvement on a few weeks ago. I just have to make sure I don’t miss those tablets as I really feel bad if I do.

ttc I’m so sorry to hear you are so poorly and no ketones are showing. I wish hospitals didn’t rely on ketones. With urine that colour you must be dehydrated. I do hope you get some medication sorted soon and things start looking up. How many weeks are you?

Yarnswift · 07/08/2018 08:30

Really foody? I’ve been puking since 3.5 weeks so that’s not really new although it did get a bit better from week 26 or so, down to just a free times a day from 50+ at the peak.

I don’t think I’m having contractions - I never felt any with my first pregnancy, no Braxton-Hicks and I had to have a section at 38 weeks for placenta previa so no real contractions either. Haven’t had any Braxton-Hicks that I’ve felt in this pregnancy either. It’s more like horrible period cramps and the sensation of the baby grinding into my pelvis and sacrum (vomit.)

If he wants to exit from any time now he is more than welcome....

Yarnswift · 07/08/2018 08:31

A couple of days for the period pain like stuff.

Foodylicious · 07/08/2018 09:15

Sounds like things could be getting ready then?
I have heard lots of people report period pains and bowel troubles in the few hours/days before labour starts.

Might be worth getting checked out though if you feel unwell as could be a bug Maybe?

Do you have aMW appt soon?

Yarnswift · 07/08/2018 09:18

Last mw appt was 32 weeks and I’m not scheduled another - it’s a huge pita to get in to them as I can’t walk to the bus and there’s nowhere to park either (sigh..)

I don’t think it’s a bug - just my poor body rebelling against it all!

My MIL asked me in all seriousness how many more kids I’d like. I was ‘AHAHAHAHAHA HA HA..... NONE. NONE.’

Foodylicious · 07/08/2018 09:21

hotchoc the antibodies could be a problem and I did freak out a bit when she first told me.
Basically it can cause baby to be aenemic and/or Jaundiced.

But my numbers where really low so I am trying not to worry.
Had bloods done again last weds and annoyingly they are not back yet...

MW seems to think I might to stay in eith baby for 24hrs for monitoring, but if everything is fine at first tests (they test chord blood and check baby) and I am good to go, I will ask to leave and go back for checks if needed.
I really don't want to stay in or be away from #1 any longer than I have to.

Foodylicious · 07/08/2018 09:23

I do remember the grinding 'bowling ball in your pelvis' feeling yarnswift It's really not nice Sad

Yarnswift · 07/08/2018 09:28

olive don’t fret about lack of bump! My first I had nothing till 17 w then overnight I seemed to look like a planet. My second (current) I looked huge from the start almost - I know the early stuff is bloat but it was impossible to get into regular jeans.
My mate with her first didn’t show at all until almost 8m - totally flat stomach. With her second again she had a fair sized bump early.

We all carry differently - even one bump can be different shapes through the day.

LucindaE · 07/08/2018 18:40

Ttc You poor thing. That is awful. Great advice from Bored and everyone about the lack of ketones. I am so sorry, too, that PPS is away for a week. Far be it from me to suggest you stage a collapse in A and E or something to be treated effectively. WinkIf a pregnant woman has been unable to retain liquids for over 24 hours they are meant to treat it is a medical emergency. I really cannot credit that they are being so offhand, however busy they are. Are you able to keep down any liquids at all?
Yamswift That sounds awful. Poor you. Like others I do hope it is pre-labour. Was it you I asked before, if that was really fifty retching sessions not heaves and it was? That must have been torment.
Good advice to Olivecake about the lack of a bump.
Foodylicious It is reassuring they aren't taking it seriously.
Hotchocolate Best of luck with test.
It isn't - quite - as hot as it was here, but I believe it is horribly hot for sufferers further south. I do feel for you all.
Apologies for anyone rudely ignored.

OP posts:
Yarnswift · 07/08/2018 18:55

It was fifty ‘heave and stuff comes outs’ - I didn’t count the dry heaves or the general ‘boak’ sort of stuff.

It was hell. I know I sound dramatic but I feel quite traumatised by pregnancy. It’s also turned me into a fairly radical feminist!

Hugs to all suffering - next week is set for cooler weather so hopefully that will help a bit.

Hotchocolate86 · 07/08/2018 19:16

It is apparently 27 degrees where I am today. Looking forward to tomorrow when it’s supposed to start cooling off. I’m almost wishing for the cold weather to come in at the moment.

foody I hope the antibodies don’t prove to be a problem. I don’t know much about them at all but hopefully low numbers is a very good sign.

yarn it sounds like you have really suffered. I hope the end is in sight for you soon. It will be worth it but my goodness pregnancy is not fun.

Hotchocolate86 · 08/08/2018 17:34

I had my 31 week appointment today and thankfully don’t have to have a GTT test yet. I’m so pleased about that.

LucindaE · 08/08/2018 17:59

Yamswift That is awful. Much sympathy.
Hotchocolate That is good news.
Ttc How are things? Everyone?
