Experiences with taking Odasteron

I’m currently 8 weeks pregnant and suffering from Hyperemesis. The Dr first tried metoclopramide which had little effect so last night I started odasteron. OMG, I feel human again and hopeful for the first time in 3 weeks that I will be able to survive this pregnancy!

Has anyone else had any experience taking this? I have read a lot of experiences from Australia and USA where they have taken it long term but my Dr doesn’t seem to be keen for me to take it for more than 5 days. I’m really scared that the symptoms will come back when I stop.

Any stories/experiences much welcomed Smile

It doesn't get prescribed as a first line treatment very often because it is so expensive but is often prescribed when nothing else is working. Some women really have to fight for it as their GP is reluctant to prescribe due to cost but it is known to be really effective and many women call it a miracle drug!

I took it for about 14 weeks. Finally weaned off of it at about 20 weeks. It was an absolute godsend, although I still needed to top up with metaclopramide as well at times. Warning: it makes you INCREDIBLY constipated. Like ‘think I’m dying, somebody call an ambulance’ kind of constipated. Get lactulose, and glycerine suppositories. It’s worth having an enema on hand too!

I had Ondansetron and cyclizine, made me feel so much better! It's just expensive and more a last resort if the cheaper options aren't working. I was only given it as whatever they gave me by iv wore off far too quickly for their liking.

I had Ondansetron, Cyclizine and Metraclopromide and they didn't work for me. I took them for weeks with no improvement and ended up on steroids. They did make me very, very constipated though.

I’ve been on it since I was hospitalised at 7 weeks with HG and still on it now at 35 weeks, it’s a wonder drug!

Started it at 10 weeks, still on it now at 33 weeks. It is an amazing drug! Literally my fav drug ever!!

Thanks for your replies everyone. My Dr said that if I took it for 5 days it would ‘reset’ my body and the nausea and vomiting would stop. Has anyone else heard this? I’m not sure if they have said that because the tablets are expensive and they don’t want me on them long term. I’ve even been researching buying them privately because they make such a difference!

It definitely didn't reset for me - I was on it from about 11 weeks as cyclizine, metaclopramide and procloperazine weren't working. I've tried weaning down off it a few times and am now down to one a day - at 24 weeks. But when I tried to stop earlier the sickness was definitely still there.
