I feel so crap that I've managed to start pregnancy already very overweight. Blush It's crept on over the last couple of years through a mixture of being too busy to take good care of myself and comfort eating.

Has anyone else started out overweight? Did it affect your pregnancy? Did you feel judged?

My last pregnancy I was 14 years younger and much slimmer/healthier.

Mine was 31 at booking. I'm 26 and appalled that I've put on so much weight in the last few years!

I haven't felt at all judged. I have to have a GDD test at about 6 months but they were very nice about it, and I don't really mind. My size 8 SIL had Gestational Diabetes so it can happen to anyone.

No effects on pregnancy so far, but I'm only 14 weeks.

Congratulations on your pregnancy :)

I was 31 when I got pregnant. Just had my 28 week check up and baby/uterus measuring spot on and everything sounding fine. Blood pressure, urine, and GD test all clear and good. And I haven't weighed myself since they weighed me in at 5 weeks so I've no idea what I've put on. Apart from the peeing and sore lower back I feel totally fine. Do not worry yourself. Congratulations!

Mine is 31 but my Midwife didn't care at the booking in appointment. She said it would only possibly be an issue if it was over 35 and I'm so low risk in every other category it's no big deal.

BMI of 32 here also. Weight has crept on for me over a the last few years (after going to a lot of effort to lose it) I haven't weighed myself as I don't really see the point, I'm just focusing on staying active and not pigging out too much. 25 weeks and feel ok, no problems so far. Midwives not judged me at all Smile

Ah thanks for these replies! Midwife was nice about and said about the GD test. She asked if I'd like to see the healthy lifestyles midwife and I said yes. I'm not daft, I know what I should be eating, but perhaps that will be an avenue of support.

I've spent so far in my pregnancy very very ill and either constantly throwing up, or hooked up to a drip. I'm now in a non-sicky but very nauseous phase where all I can stomach is stuff like toast and crisps. Hmm Hopefully once the hyperemesis passes I can eat a bit more normally and healthily.

Also because I've been super ill the past 5 weeks (4 hospital admisssions with overnight stays) I've been practically bed ridden and now feel very weak and like I've lost muscle strength. Sad

Mine was 31 as I haven’t lost last pregnancy weight yet.

I really don’t want the GDD test so despite all the nausea I’m cutting out the crap food & im exercising.

Every other morning I’m going to an outdoor gym - done twice for over half hour & run there & back.
I also do yoga for half hour every day.

It’s given me the kick up the ass I need.

ladycarlotta · 22/06/2018 14:19

mine is 29 - have been trying and failing to lose for years. I'm 20kg up on my slimmest and am a bit horrified. I'm glad to hear that nobody's had much grief about it.
Presumably the advice is not to actively try to lose weight in pregnancy? I'd like to focus on not gaining too much, and on building strength and stamina ahead of labour. I've started swimming regularly anyway, but now it seems even more important.

My bmi is 35.
I use a wheelchair full time so weight management is difficult because of the lack of exercise.

My last pregnancy I was actually underweight, but I was a technically a teenager then and far more active.

I'm not looking forward to the disapproval.

I'd already started slimming world before I found out I was pregnant, so now I'm just making sure I stay healthy and get plenty of the right foods with the right nutrients.
