Where can I get syringes for harvesting colostrum?

Does anyone know where I can buy syringes for harvesting colostrum?

I was given some by the hospital yesterday, but when I opened the envelope there were only 2 1ml syringes in there. I had bought some from Amazon, but when they arrived I realised they didn't have caps so it will all leak out!

I can get more from the hospital, but as it's 45 mins away, it'd be easier to order online!

Check if your community midwife has them if you don't find any online.

Also, are you sure it leaks out? Try it with some water in one of them. The ones I used in NICU didn't have caps on them, but didn't leak because of the suction from the plunger being pulled back.

We put them back into the wrapper open end first to keep them clean then wrote the date and time on the wrapper.

That's a good idea, will do. Only problem with that is I live in the middle of nowhere and she only comes to the area once every two weeks! She's not due back for another two... I do love living in a remote location, but sometimes it makes things very tricky! :)

I just got them OTC from a larger Boots. You can get them online cheaper though.

Colostrum is thick and sticky rather than watery - mine were capless and it wasn't really a problem, they didn't leak. I just slipped them back into the individual packaging and popped them in the freezer.

The vet! They will have loads and they are sterile. They wouldn’t even let us pay!

Amazing... didn't think about even trying them without caps. I'll definitely give that a whirl! Forgot how sticky colostrum is!

Would NEVER have thought about the vet... that's a good shout too.
