Hello all,
So it is my due date tomorrow!
I had an antenatal appointment last Thursday, where my MW said that baby's growth had dipped a bit.
She was not concerned, just said there could be many reasons for this and it can be normal at the end of a pregnancy.
Anyway the following day I had noticed her movements had slowed a little bit, just to be safe I went in and they put me on the monitor, turns out all was well and they were happy with her heartbeat and movements, so that put my mind at rest but they booked me in for an ultrasound scan to triple check everything as it was my second episode of reduced movement. So I was referred to the women's unit in hospital yesterday for the scan. Once again everything was fine and they were very happy with baby's heartbeat, movements and general health. The lady managed to measure her shoulder and waist (I think) circumference, but because she is so low down ready to arrive she could not get a measurement of her head (which apparently can hinder the estimated size) Anyway I was told that she is going to be (quite a big baby) an estimated 8lb 6oz already. But this looked bizarre on my growth chart as she was growing steadily until my last measurement with MW where she dipped slightly, and now there is this anomaly on my growth chart that is showing this (much bigger baby). Now don't get me wrong, I really don't care how big or small she is as long as she is healthy. However I am just curious to know how accurate these US scans are, as I am only very small (5ft) and my fiance is only 5ft3, but I have put on three stone in this pregnancy!!!!!!!!! And particularly with me being small they have now warned me about the risks of shoulder dystocia (which sounds terrifying) although they made it clear that it can happen to anyone and the risk is small, I can't help but panicking about this! It's also worth mentioning this is my first baby, and everyone has commented on how they can't believe I am due because my bump is so small......but she's an 8 and a half pound baby!!!! Mind boggled!
