Mat b1 form

My work made me aware today that they need my mat b1 form by the 25th week of pregnancy but I have read it's not given out until the 25th week midwife appointment (first baby). Just worried this is going to cause problems

I gave mine in at 27 weeks. Just make sure to remember to ask for it, as it was never mentioned at any of my appointments.

The forms are generally issued after 20 weeks as they should not be issued before 20 weeks. You can request it before you have your appointment, you don't need to wait.

Thanks. My work need by that week in order to arrange maternity cover while I will be off.

Hopefully they will understand if a week or two late with it

You’ll get it then and there at your 25 week appointment so just give it to work when you’re next in (presumably later that day/the following day). My HR department was based in a different building and they, or internal post, managed to lose mine twice, meaning they didn’t confirm receipt of it until I was closer to 30 weeks; there was no issue with maternity pay or anything like that.

sprinklesandsauce · 19/06/2018 16:34

Can you not just ask your midwife to provide it after you have had your 20 week scan? Just call your health surgery, ask them to give her a message saying that you need it, and then they can leave it on reception for you to collect. No stress involved then.

MagicFajita · 19/06/2018 16:37

As pps have said , you can get it after your 20 week scan or after 20 weeks in general.

I actually forgot to ask for it after my anomaly scan but my gp surgery happily produced and signed one for me and left it at the desk.

BlueBug45 · 19/06/2018 16:43

I got mine at my 20 week scan appointment which is as per the .gov.uk website advice.

If you very very unfortunately give birth at 24 weeks you are entitled to maternity leave which is why they should give it to you at your 20 week scan appointment.

Yes you do have to ask for it.

Mhcb · 19/06/2018 16:53

Thank you everyone. My 20 week scan booked for when I am 19+3 so I guess I will need to wait til after 20 weeks to request it

I was 19+4 at my 20week scan. I just phoned my midwife when I got to 20weeks and they signed it and left it at reception for me to collect. If your other half is having paternity leave his work might need one too ( I had to ask for another one at my 26week appointment for DH).

Mhcb · 19/06/2018 18:07

I was going to just photo copy the form for his work

ArnoldBee · 19/06/2018 18:10

I would just add make sure you submit the forms within company timescales. Someone I worked with was denied paternity leave as they were new and didn't submit the forms on time.

MagicFajita · 19/06/2018 18:11

Tbh op , if you make a colour copy they won't even notice that it's not the original. I know this because I made copies for my own records then accidentally gave one of them to workSmile

Bluebirdsky · 19/06/2018 18:12

I just called my midwife after 20 weeks and she left it at the reception desk of my GP surgery for me.

Thegirlhasnoname · 19/06/2018 18:13

I’d email/ring your HR department. I have a similar kind of situation in that I need to give work formal maternity notice the a week before I actually see my midwife to get the MATB1 form but they said it was fine. Hopefully yours do too!

Mhcb · 19/06/2018 18:34

I am waiting on them getting back to me. It only due to them needing plenty of time to arrange cover to look after my team.

In my first pregnancy I was told by the midwife they wouldn't issue it until 24 weeks even though I know other places do it earlier, just had to give it to work as soon as I got it. Will have to do the same this time I think.

jubbablub · 19/06/2018 19:02

Where I live, you don’t see a midwife after the 20 week scan normally, so you get the MatB1 at 25 weeks.

Baby2018 · 19/06/2018 21:27

Ive just been given mine at 26 weeks so if you want it sooner I think you need to proactively ask your midwife, I cant see why your work couldn't wait a week or two though?

Mhcb · 19/06/2018 21:31

It is just part of there maternity policy. Any later and risk my pay not being sorted fully at first
