Had my Nuchal Translucency scan yesterday - so relieved

I had my NT scan yesterday (we went last week but the baby was too small to test) and I am SO relieved, you cannot believe!!

The sonographer said that on the merit of just my age, my risk assessment was 1 in 90. However, after taking loads and loads of measurements from the baby, she calculated that my risk assessment had shot right down to 1 in 1,922!!! We were so relieved to be given such high figures, considering that a friend of mine at work who is the same age as me was given 1 in 500. We have therefore decided not to opt for a CVS.

I personally am so relieved. Phew. I feel like now i can relax and finally start enjoying the pregnancy.

My next scan now will be when I'm 22 weeks and then i get to find out if I'm having a boy or not! My DP doesn't want to know the sex but i will need to mentally prepare myself if we are having a girl, IYSWIM.

Just thought I'd share my good news with you!

Good news, you must be thrilled.

I had my scan this morning. Its so nice to be able to relax a bit more, and know the heart is beating and the little thing wriggling about and healthy.

It's a great feeling, isn't it?! The little jellybean was jumping around all over the place yesterday!!

Good news RG pleased you got a low risk & it's set your mind at rest. Here in Scotland you don't get a scan at 20 weeks unless you're in a high risk category for abnormalities (well at my hospital anyway) but I'll get later scans because of medical history so I'm looking forward to those.
Did they change your dates or were you right after all?

RGPargy · 24/05/2007 12:23

No scan at 20 weeks?? Blimey!

They haven't changed my dates at all, but they did say that they thought the pg was 5 days younger than we think. Not necessarily meaning my dates are wrong (i know they're absolutely spot on), but just that conception could have been quite late in my cycle.

I do think they have a point tho because measurements and weight etc is that of a baby who is perhaps a week younger.

But they said that as it was only 5 days and under a week, they would leave the dates as they are.

I was induced with DD as they were sure she was 10 days overdue but I was convinced she was due bang on that day. Do these people think we don't know when we've had sex, mind you I was asked if I was sure I hadn't just wet myself when I'd had a leak of hind waters, fgs I'm 36 I know when I've peed my pants!
I'll get scanned at 28 & 32/34 weeks as I've thyroid probs, had suspected plancenta praevia last time(turned out not to be had cs in case) & I'm an older mum. I imagine by that time you'll not see much just a big squashed up baby in close up.

RGPargy · 24/05/2007 16:27

lol @ peeing your pants!!

As i'm an older mum too, they said they wouldn't even entertain a home birth as i "didn't fit the criteria" (whatever that means).

I can imagine that you probably WILL only see a squashed up little baby at 32/34 weeks! Still, at least they're checking on you. Better than leaving you to your own devices, eh?
