Maternity leave due to start Thurs - can I be signed off now with stress?

So last Thursday I discovered that my job is being relocated to an office a 2 hour commute from my home. Then today I was offered a poor package to hand in my notice and not return. There is more to it than this, but I'm trying to keep it short. I'm seeking legal advice on this situation because I don't think it's legally above board.

However, I feel so stressed, anxious and overwhelmed I'm not sure I can continue coming in for another 3 days. I've got a midwife appointment tomorrow. Can I be signed off with stress?

How many weeks are you? If you are over 36 weeks maternity leave can start then if you go off sick. You can self certify for a week, a midwife can't sign you off sick.

Self cert until you go off on Thursday. It sounds horrid

I was going to say the same as PP, phone in sick.
They would be crazy to bring any kind of disciplinary against you as any tribunal would rule in your favour for discrimination.

I've told them how much stress it's putting me under and they have said that: stress is personal, it's not their fault I'm feeling stressed. The business owner then said that he was really stressed having to manage 80 members of staff and a business. He told me stress was relative!!

I've worked here 6 years! I've only had 5 days off sick including during my pregnancy, so I think I will self cert. I might make a docs appointment though because I feel like I need something on record.

I'm 36+1.

You won't be able to self certify as you are over 36 weeks, maternity leave will kick in

Ok - for the sake of 3 days and my sanity, I think it's probably worth it.

Totally! You have to look after yourself!
