I'm 16 weeks pregnant and yesterday and today I've had a few heart palpitations, I've also noticed that I've been having a lot of shortness of breathe recently...could this be normal or a cause for concern? Really freaking out...

I’ve been experiencing this. First I would contact your GP as one of the symptoms of anaemia is shortness of breath. They can do a blood test to check and then either up your iron intake through diet or prescribe iron tablets.
Depending on how you’re carrying it could also just be the baby and your organs giving your lungs less room. It’s pretty common as you get further along.
But definitely see the GP just to make sure.

Yes I'm getting these too.

Go to your GP. It can be normal so when I experienced it I just put it down to a pregnancy thing. At my 28 week check my midwife could feel it when she did my blood pressure. It turns out I had an undiagnosed heart issue and am still having tests.

I don’t want to scare you - I’m the minority but the GP will be able to rule out any other causes. If you’re really worried go to A & E - that’s not something I normally advise. My midwife sent me, I felt like a fraud as I felt fine but it was 100% the right thing to do.

Go to the GP. My cousin had shortness of breath while pregnant and they discovered she had blood clots in her lungs. She and the baby were fine, but might not have been if she had ignored her symptoms.

I had this and it was anaemia. Get yourself to the GP.

Sounds like anaemia.. definitely get your levels checked. I've got heart arrhythmia and have palpitations a lot of the time.. it's exacerbated by increased blood flow. But palps and SOB are classically linked to anaemia.

I always tell people, shortness of breath go straight to a and e. Sure it may just be low iron, but you never know! Though low iron is still something you need to get checked, it can be dangerous if it gets too low. Also pregnant women are a lot more likely to develop clots so I wouldn't just sweep it under the rug. Definitely get seen by a medical professional at the earliest opportunity.

Thanks ladies, currently in A&E after calling 111 doctor called me back and advised to go straight to hospital and not to wait. They do know how to scare the hell out of you, but it's for our health so I guess that's that.

Just had an ECG and waiting to see DR for results.

I got really freaked out earlier because I had a string of heart palpitations very close together within 20 minutes, this is very abnormal for me!

You may well be anaemic. Hope they give you an answer OP.

Heart palpitations were my very first symptom of pregnancy a week before I got my BFP. Had shortness of breath in my first trimester but nothing since then. Currently 32 weeks.

Hope all is ok OP.

Palpitations and shortness of breath are classic pregnancy symptoms. Could be anemia but in all likelihood all is fine. I get palpitations if I’ve done too much or am dehydrated. Hope all is ok Flowers.
