Baby Is Engaged?

Sorry I am a first time mum, had midwife appointment this morning in which she told me my little one is engaged. I am 34 weeks +2 is this unusual? Also can the he pop out of the engaged position?

Any help or views would be useful.

They can go in and out, though as they get bigger this is less likely.

With my second, he was fully engaged from about 34 weeks, and he didn't arrive until 40+2, so doesn't really mean anything about when the baby is likely to arrive.

It may mean that you measure slightly smaller, as the baby's head is in your pelvis - I was sent for a growth scan at 38 weeks to double check it was this and not slowed growth, but all was fine he was just so low down!

Thank you. I have been referred for another growth scan. Just doesn’t want to be measured correctly.

Thank you for your response my midwife didn’t really explain it. He is a little fidget so wouldn’t surprise me if he does pop out :)

With DD1 she engaged around the same time. Apparently first babies engage earlier whereas subsequent ones wait until shortly before birth. Then again DD2 engaged early too.

I don't think it gives any indication as to when they will be born.

My ds was engaged by about 34 weeks, and pretty much stayed there, I had 7 weeks of his bum at the top of my bump and his knees jabbing me. He wasn't born until 41 weeks exactly
