does anyone know roughly what blood pressure is normal - or does it very much depend on the individual?

had bp checked today and its gone up again - the midwife didnt say anything about it, but looking at the figures in my notes afterwards, its going up every time. its now 140/72 which seems high to me when i started at 90 over something.

I'm 19 wks & have 130/70 today.

could you get it checked again to be sure it's ok.

I think its different for everyone. Mine is usually 110 or 120 over 60 or 70. 140 sounds high to me seeing as it was only 90. Worth calling your MW to confirm that she is happy with it. I'm sure if it was anything to worry about she would have picked up on it.

thanks - i did think it wasnt worth worrying too much as she did do it twice so she might have been checking to make sure, and would therefore presumably have said if she thought it was too high - get checked again in 2 weeks time, so will ask this time what it is while i am still in the room, and then can make sure its not still going up.

Hi, here's a link to a page about what is normal blood pressure link

hope this helps!

conkertree - hiya! its the second figure, the diastolic pressure that is the most important one and anything below 80 is fine. so yours is ok. the systolic measurement of 140 is only slightly high so i wouldn't worry about it too much. how long till your next antenatal check?

greedygreedyguzzler · 22/05/2007 14:24

140 mmHg generally seems to be the cut off point. readings of higher than this are considered high. were you stressed out or rushing or was there any reason why it could have been falsly high?

conkertree · 22/05/2007 15:41

hi greedy - how are you? am a little bit stressed going back to work yesterday, but just had two really relaxing weeks off so thought it might have been a lower reading than last time. Next appointment is in two weeks, so will ask about it then if it hasnt gone down.

thanks for the link bananabump
