Is it normal that I have terribly painful ribs at the moment - I mean seriously painful feels like someone is trying to prise them apart!!

How far along are you Twinkie? I used to get very sore ribs with all three as they were OP and they used to wedge their feet under my bottom ribs and push (or at least thats what it felt like ) If you aren't getting any other symtoms - coughing or fever - maybe its just where your heart and lungs are expanding and the uterus is growing and squashing everything, and the only place it can all go is out IYSWIM. I'm pretty sure your rib cage expands during pregnancy, maybe its done it a bit too fast this time, in which case it should settle down again soon?

26.5 weeks LL.

He is lying all down one side with his bottom under my ribs on one side and kicking hell out of me on the other side (whilst strumming my bladder with his fingers I think) and this morning I really felt like he was trying to do something in there to make my tummy split open with all the stretching he was doing!!

Probably is just ribs and the fact that I have been sitting at a desk and can't be arsed to move and probably won't for at least another hour!!

Mine are sore, it's a relief to take my bra off! I think they do expand in pregnancy though. Have they been sore before? Mine have been for a few weeks and your a few weeks ahead of me I think so maybe they are doing it all at once? Do you feel short of breath at all? Make sure you don't have any shoulder pain at all! Paracetamol should help as long as you are sure it is just rib pain. Hope it goes away quickly!!

Twinkie love, get up and walk about for a minute or two, perhaps he just wants rocking a bit.

Twinkie · 12/08/2004 12:36

Thanks Flossam - yes they have hurt before but not this much - although I have been on hols for a few weeks and lying on a lounger and swimming probably helped.

Will take a couple of paracetamol though now and hope it goes away.

Hello - Try putting an ice pack (or bag of frozen peas!) on the area but for no longer than 10 minutes at a time or you'll get frost bite! It's a natural analgesic and will help to calm the tissues down and reduce any inflammation that may have built up in the area. If it's unbearable or you would like it looked at, then you may find osteopathic treatment helps. Emily (Osteopath) - see www.backworking.co.uk - let me know if you'd like more info on rib pain an pregnancy and i'll post it here

Thanks Emily - will have ago at that when I get home later - not too bad today and am wearing a bra with a bigger back so that maybe something to do with it!!

No problem Twinkie - you're right - a bra with a bigger back will definitely help!
