I am 34 weeks pregnant, so very tired. Had little sleep the past 2 nights, can't sleep during the day. Thought i would get a better nights sleep tonight but i can't even lay down with out having coughing fits. They've got worse as soon as i have gone to bed. Is there anything i can take to ease it? I have toddler cough medcine in my cupboard but don't think i can take that. Thank you

My dh swears by a ball of butter rolled in sugar. I have never tried it as I never ever get coughs but a friend posted the other day and someone recommended it and she said it worked.

Also you could put some vicks on your soles of your feet then socks on, dehumidifer in your room, prop your pillows up so your more sat up or try the couch.

pineapple juice, not from concentrate.

Sips of ice cold water (preferably with ice in) really helps. Every time you feel a cough coming, take a sip and try and surpress it. It also is very soothing to a raw throat.

Isadora2007 · 12/06/2018 00:37

I will get some pineapple juice in tomorrow for my dd. Did your cough start after your whooping cough vaccine? Dd has been unwell since hers 9/10 days ago. Like a bad cold but also a bad and ongoing cough...

SamanthaH92 · 12/06/2018 00:44

I think my DD has picked it up from mother and toddlers. Most the kids were coughing and very snotty. I've been struggling with just cold since thursday cough started yesterday properly and now its awful. I've got heartburn too all the time so didn't really need this extra bug lol x

Have you tried sitting in a steamy bathroom, that can help clear your cough.

FellOutOfBed2wice · 12/06/2018 00:54

Codeine is a cough suppressant. I know that you can take it when pregnant as I did, but it may need to be prescribed.

sandgrown · 12/06/2018 00:54

Get plain glycerine from Boots. Stir a spoonful into a glass of water and sip this whenever you start to cough.

SamanthaH92 · 12/06/2018 00:54

Yeah i did try that earlier and it did help a little bit x

Honey and lemon it's brilliant, especially either a chest infection

Guiltypleasures001 · 12/06/2018 00:57

In hot water sorry

SamanthaH92 · 12/06/2018 01:08

Codine? I may have some of them left. I didn't realise it was x

Honey, lemon, ginger, cayenne pepper and hot water.
Also if you go to doctor there are certain prescriptions that are safe during pregnancy. I had to go on antibiotics for a sinus infection and it was fine to get them

SamanthaH92 · 12/06/2018 01:15

I've taken my last codeine tablet to see if that helps. Just want my bed and sleep not the sofa and been awake. Hopefully it will and also help with my SPD pain. I'll try get in to the doctors if it gets worse. I am coughing up green mucus so did think possible chest infection as well but haven't had one of them since i quit smoking x

Managed just 2 hours sleep with no coughing. Codeine must of warn off now, woken to a bad headache and extremly tight and sore throat, cough is worse now 😔

Yoghurt works for me, just a few spoonfuls of plain.

Trytowin · 12/06/2018 04:01

Hot water, honey/ agave and lemon juice. Hot water refreshes, Honey or agave soothes and coats and the lemon juice starts to break down the crap so easier to rid.
