34+6 weeks swollen feet and hands?

Hi I just wondered if could get some advice from ladies in the know! I’m 34+6, haven’t been sleeping great but yesterday woke up bunged up and felt maybe sinus infection as had a splitting sore head. Took paracetamol just when was really bad as cautious to take. Went out yesterday to a show and it was mostly sitting but walked to theatre from station and back so 15 mins approx and 15 mins back, sitting on train etc, when I came bk I took my shoes off and my feet were huge, I’d been feeling them slightly swollen before but not like this, I’ve kept them raised all night and this morning they are slightly down but still big, my hands aren’t as bad but big enough that I can’t put my rings on. Is this just normal or should I give midwife a call? Don’t want to be phoning for anything that is just part of pregnancy but just the sudden change I thought I’d best ask and get some advice. T.I.A

Sudden swelling (especially hands) is a red flag for pre-eclampsia. Definitely call the number in your notes asap.

Like pp said, this was my first and only sign of preeclampsia, I'd call someone for definite.. fingers crossed all is ok🤞🏼x

Thank you for your replies.

The only sign? Really, I was thinking maybe I’m over reacting. I’ll give them a call now and see what they say. It’s so much better being able to hear from other ppls experiences

Never think you're over reacting, I know I felt that way too but my partner made me ring and I'm glad I did 😊 it could just be 'normal' pregnancy symptoms but it's always best to be on the safe side! Looking back after, I realised I had more frequent headaches too and been seeing 'floaters' like silver spots but just always just batted it off like it was just 'pregnancy' 🙈 but they tested my urine and blood and told me it was the beginning of preeclampsia x

Thank you! I’ve been trying to call but is constantly engaged so far! My fingers seem to be going down so wondering if it’s all ok but I’m best phoning anyway (whenever I manage to get thru)

You're not overreacting at all... I felt like I was the other day when I called midwife for advice after large dog jumped up and pushed really hard into my bump. Anyway, I was overreacting but speaking to midwife put my mind at ease and they were so nice about it.

Midwives are now my favourite profession Smile

Thanks! I just don’t like wasting ppls time or making a mountain over a molehill but I have called, midwife wasn’t sure what to do but then advised as I haven’t had any blurred vision to keep feet up for a few hours more and call her back, that’s been over 3 hours, right foot has went down quite a bit, left foot a bit but is still fairly swollen, friends are saying face is a bit swollen but I don’t know if it’s from lying down practically all day, seems to be a bit in my eyelids but not too much but as feet are going down I assume this means it’s ok!

Glad u got some reassurance and I would always 100% always say phone if there is anything at all! We all need that reassurance now and then and better safe than sorry! Glad all is ok x

I had pre eclampsia and my only symptom was swelling (which seemed minor to me and I assumed a normal side effect of pregnancy). No headaches or anything!

mummytobe07 · 10/06/2018 19:13

I’m down at maternity assessment just now waiting, they have taken my blood pressure which was all ok from what I seen, given a urine sample but there’s a long wait to be seen Sad

For the ladies who had pre eclampsia was there other symptoms identified when assessed? (Blood pressure?) wondering if it’s going to be a total waste of time but had to be safe than sorry! Especially when back at work tomorrow and will be on my feet I imagine won’t help.
